"Touched by an Angel" star Roma Downey and her husband Mark Burnett, the man behind mega hit shows, including "Survivor" and "The Voice," have created what they say is their biggest achievement yet - a ten hour mini-series called "The Bible."
According to the Huffington Post on Mar. 1, "The Bible" is set to premiere Sunday at 8:00 p.m. EST on the History Channel. The series takes a dramatic look through the world's most popular book, from the story of Noah's Ark to the Exodus and the birth, life and times of Jesus.
"We're trying to tell the story of God's love for his people," said Downey, who plays the role of Mary in the five-episode series.
Inspired after watching the film "The Ten Commandments," the couple got an idea over four years ago to tell the story once again, but in a bit more modern way.
"We saw this as an opportunity engage people in new and exciting ways to consider these stories and re-experience them," said Downey.
If you haven't heard of actor Diogo Morgado, you most certainly will after this series airs. Morgado plays Jesus Christ in the upcoming "Bible" series and says even though he grew up believing in Jesus, he was nervous taking on the role of portraying him.
"I was scared when I knew I was going to play Jesus," Morgado admitted to The Christian Post of his daunting role. "I went to the place where everything [Biblical] supposedly happened and got involved with this energy." "The opportunity to participate in this project made me go back to my spirituality and communion with God."
"The Bible" will air starting this Sunday, March 3 at 8:00 p.m EST, and run every Sunday through its conclusion on March 31.
