'The Bible' premieres on the History Channel showing relevancy for our times

"The Bible" television drama premiered at 8:00 p.m. on the History Channel, Sunday, March 3rd. This epic documentary that starts with a well-known story of the “the flood” of the world and a man who built an ark (Noah) telling the story of Creation and Adam and Eve, beautifully weaves the story of God's love for His creation and His desire to have fellowship with humanity. This 10-part mini-series will air every Sunday for the next 9 weeks as it continues its saga through the Old Testament to the New Testament to culminate with the re-telling of the coming of the Messiah , Jesus Christ, God's Son who came to die for our sins so that we would have salvation and eternal life through Him.

Part 1 of the series on last evening was exceptional with the retelling of God's call to Abraham and Moses. Not necessarily a repeat of the famous Cecil B. Demille's "Ten Commandments" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ten_Commandments_(1956_film) or an earlier version of a similarly titled movie "The Bible - In the Beginning" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060164/), this movie version includes scenes of Jesus as He appeared throughout the Old Testament books of the Bible: He is the "I AM" that appears to Abraham before the destruction of Sodom (Genesis, chapters 19-19, The Holy Bible) and to Moses in the burning bush (Exodus 3:1-15, The Holy Bible); and is the "fourth man" in the fiery furnace with three Hebrew boys who would not bow to a false god (Daniel 3:25, The Holy Bible).

The Bible reveals Jesusin Holy Scriptures as present in the happenings of everyday life. The books of the Bible are written by men who foretell of His life on earth, His ministry, suffering, death and being raised from the dead (The Book of Isaiah for instance has several prophetic references about Jesus, including chapters 9 and 53). There are other books of the Bible that give us glimpses of Jesus speaking, relating, saving, redeeming and foretelling by His Spirit His coming to earth through a virgin and suffering at the hands of sinful man to redeem man from sin (destruction) because "He loved the world". Though man has sought to know God by his own means, God has revealed Himself only through Jesus, His only begotten Son. The power, love and majesty of God, The Holy Trinity I hope will be more and more evident in the series’ presentation of the manifested Christ in the Word of God.

Without any reservations, I believe this film will answer some questions so many have about life, where they come from, who is God and who is Jesus and how they may attain life everlasting and an abundant life here on earth. It is written in The Bible that Jesus said, "The thief (the devil) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full, John 10:10, King James Version. All of life's answers God has provided in Holy Scriptures. Now more than ever, we all need a fresh call to seek the scriptures to get to know Jesus Christ.

I am looking forward to seeing this series and so glad that The History Channel has worked to provide a most worthy subject for its viewing audience. May those who watch this film who are Christians be renewed in their faith in the Son of God (Jesus) who loved us and gave His life for us. May those who watch out of curiosity learn and know by the power of The Holy Spirit the great love of God in sending His Son to give us salvation and eternal life.

"If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son. He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that believes not God has made him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life." (1 John 5:9-12, KJV).
