The Bible: Believe it or not

There are some popular religious and secular doctrines circulating around the country, and specifically LA, that deny God’s inerrant Word. The commands of Holy Scripture are enduring and unchanging, and cannot be deconstructed to fit pop-culture. For those who do not believe in God, or do not believe in the Bible, it is easy to understand why they discount the commands set forth. To them, the Holy Bible is just another historical book. But for those who know and understand that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, we know that all of Scripture must be accepted, and not just portions of it. Nor can God’s Word be taken out of context to fit our self-serving desires and natural combative nature toward the Lord.

For even the most intelligent person (who will admit it), there is no question that we are created beings. Humans did not just materialize from a big bang of nothing and begin populating the earth. Scientists know, and it is in fact a rule of science, that matter cannot evolve out of nothing. There must be an origin. And on a more practical level, if one were to believe in evolution from monkeys or some other life form, or from a single cell that arbitrarily morphed into a human, then who created that first monkey or that single cell?

God is the Creator of every wonder before our eyes. The reason detractors try to explain away the truth of a Creator is that it attempts to assert total autonomy and make man completely self-governing and morally accountable to no one. It is hostility toward God for being in sovereign control of all life and existence. But even the most foolish mind cannot cast God down from His throne or diminish His omnipotence. Life and death clearly prove that. For those who claim they are in control of their lives and choose their own paths, why can they not control or ward off death? Or disease? Or depression? Clearly, we are not our own.

The good news is that God loves us even in our harsh resistance. He gave us a heart to contemplate the origin of our existence and to choose Him as Lord. And with that, He gives us the opportunity to know we are individually created by Him, and that He longs to spend eternity with us at the end of our lives, whenever that will be. Jesus Christ is that bridge. We can approach God no other way. Because of our nature that delights in sinning against Him, He had to provide a perfect sacrifice that makes us at peace with Him and forever forgiven. This is the greatest love of all, that no one can deny.

“For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” – Revelation 22:18-19
