The best steak in Jacksonville for 2009

Consider this the "Battle of the Jacksonville Steaks." Here are the contestants! (listed from worst to best):

5. Capital Grille, 5197 Big Island Dr., (904) 997-9233: Subpar is the word that comes to mind when describing this chain restaurant located at St. John's Town Center.  The waiters claim that their steaks are the "best in the U.S."  However, the filet came out bland, overcooked, and overpriced.  Capital Grille's steaks are not nearly the best steaks in Jacksonville...let alone the U.S.

4. Blue Bamboo, 3820 Southside Blvd., (904) 646-1478: This restaurant is supposed to be an Asian/American fusion restaurant.  However, the filet did not really have any Asian characteristics; it was good but not great.

3. Seafoam Room, 200 Ponte Vedra Blvd., (904) 285-1111: This restaurant, located at the Ponte Vedra Club, offers a Thursday special on surf-and-turf.  The meal comes with lobster and a small filet.  You may want to get the full-sized filet because it is excellent.  Unfortunately, only members or guests at this AAA Five-Diamond resort can dine in the restaurant.

2. Ruth's Chris, Downtown, 1201 Riverplace Blvd., (904) 396-6200: Obviously a chain restaurant but this particular Ruth's Chris is extraordinary.  In fact, it is the #1 Jacksonville restaurant on Trip Advisor.  The restaurant is located on the river in  center of downtown Jacksonville and every seat has a view of the illuminated skyline.  The filet is always cooked wonderfully and served on a sizzling plate of butter that is so hot it continues to cook steak at the table (don't touch the plate).

1. Salt, 4750 Amelia Island Parkway, (904) 277-1100: The Kobe beef here is this writer's choice for the best in Jacksonville.  Although expensive, you won't regret trying Salt's steak.  Did you know that Kobe beef cows are hand-massaged?

As a side note, the Chateaubriand at Nick and Sam's in Dallas, TX puts all these steaks to shame.  Biting into this steak is like having a party in your mouth and everyone is invited.
