Not all clothing sizes are created equal. You might wear a size 6 in one designer's line and a size 10 in another. Missy sizes and Women's sizes are also cut completely different. Add in the various numbering systems used in European, Canadian, and American clothing, and it can be very confusing to figure out what size you actually need.
The best solution: keep a log of the sizes you wear in each of your favorite designers. This way you will have all the information you need in one place and won't drive yourself crazy in the dressing room or trying to figure out what size to buy online.
Keep your log in a small notebook in your purse or wallet, or try using the "Notes" app on you smart phone or Blackberry. By having your sizes at your fingertips you will save time and aggravation, making shopping for the latest fashions a lot more fun!
