Whenever I return to the Silicon Valley I like to discover/re-discover the best places for lunch. The town of Los Gatos offers one of the best dining experiences in the Bay Area. In a town with so many excellent choices it is always a fun assignment to check out the culinary offerings for lunch. Based on restaurant goers’ reviews and my personal dining experiences I have picked three Los Gatos restaurants just perfect for lunch. They are Nicks on Main, Opa Restaurant and Wine Cellar Restaurant. What these three restaurants have in common is great food, service and an inviting setting. All of this at a good price makes these restaurants ideal for lunch.
Nick's on Main
Nick's on Main at 35 East Main Street is an American style bistro. Chef Nick Difu has created a casual restaurant with a refined elegance that works magic with local followers. When I visited the restaurant I ordered a Vegetarian Sandwich based on the waiter's recommendation. The sandwich came with great fries and a small Garden Salad. Lunch was great. It was the best Vegetarian Sandwich yet! The waiter was right.
On the second visit I returned with my husband. We started with 2002 Royal Cuvée Brut, Gloria Ferrer Caves and Vineyards, Sonoma County. For entrées we ordered a Garden Salad and I ordered the Vegetarian Sandwich again. The salad was great and the sandwich was just as tasty as the sandwich that I had on my first visit. We finished lunch with a great chocolate dessert. I can see why Nick's on Main gets loyal followers. You can check reviews for Nick’s on Main at Tripadvisor, Urbanspoon, Yelp and Nick's press page.
Wine Cellar Restaurant
I have dropped by the Wine Cellar Restaurant at 50 University Avenue in Old Town for lunch a number of times. Wine Cellar founded in 1966 is one of the original restaurants in Old Town. Executive Chef Wayne Hashman's extensive culinary experience is reflected in the range of menu offerings at the Wine Cellar.
It was a sunny day when I visited the Wine Cellar for lunch. Given it was a beautiful day I dined outside under the large oak trees. Wine Cellar is one of the few restaurants in Los Gatos with outside seating. For lunch I ordered a Portobello Sandwich. It came with a side salad and fries. Later I revisited the Wine Cellar with a friend. She ordered Fish and Chips. Both Wine Cellar visits were great lunch experiences. You can check reviews at Citysearch, OpenTable, Tripadvisor, Urbanspoon and Yelp.
Opa
Opa Restaurant at 27 North Santa Cruz is one of a number of Opa restaurants in the Silicon Valley. It was our choice when I joined two friends for lunch. This restaurant is perfect if you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine. We ordered some pita bread with a dip for an appetizer. We selected three different entrees namely Opa Saute with Vegetarian Souvlaki, Lamb and Beef Platter and the Shrimp and Beef Souvlaki. We were quite pleased with our lunch at Opa. You can check reviews at Citysearch, Tripadvisor, Urbanspoonand Yelp.
All three restaurants (Nicks on Main, Opa and the Wine Cellar Restaurant) offer unique dining experiences, which makes them great top picks for lunch. I invite you to check out my travel column at the Examiner or to visit Spaswinefood.
