Are you a vegetarian invited to a bbq cook out, and friends do not know what to prepare for you.
The menu is often hot dogs, chicken, and grilled steak
Even if even you do eat alot of vegetarian dishes, this is good tasting burger a beef eater would even enjoy.
What you need
For the marinate
2/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup balsamic
2 each truvia or 1 teaspoon sugar
2 each garlic cloves chopped
1 teaspoon salt or to taste
½ teaspoon fresh cracked pepper or to taste
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
4 each stem less portobello mushrooms (wipe with damp cloth to clean)
1 medium sized yellow onion, sliced into 4 equal portions
4 whole wheat hamburgers rolls
How to make
*Place all ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
*Using a wire whisk, mix all ingredients well.
*Add mushrooms and onions to the dressing.
*Using tongs or well washed hands to incorporate all ingredients.
*Place in a large zip lock bag and refrigerate for 3-4 hours
*About 20 minutes before ready to cook mushrooms, preheat gas grill.
*Set one side to low heat, and the other side to medium high heat.
*Place the onions on the low heat and the mushrooms on the flat side down on the medium heat.
*Cook onions for about 6 minutes on each side.
*Cook mushrooms for 3 minutes, then 90 degree angle and cook for another 3 minutes.
*Turn mushrooms over and cook for about 6 minutes, by this time the mushrooms should be tender, and onions grilled and translucent. If not, cook longer until this is achieved.
*Remove mushrooms and onions.
*Toast the whole wheat buns on the grill
*Build burger and add desired condiments.
*Enjoy.
*Notes:
*A good quality store bought dressing can be substituted for the home made marinate.
*You can add your favorite cheese at the end to melt on the burger.
