Philly Does Dessert!

When it comes to food and Philadelphia most people think we are only known for cheese steaks and Philadelphia Brand Cream Cheese. But the holiday season is here in the City of Brotherly Love and the weather outside is frightening! That means one thing, comfort food! Nothing is more soothing or satisfying than blowing your diet with an unforgettable dessert of 1000 calories a spoonful. But, when dining out, great desserts have to look great too; delicious and decadent! When the waiter brings our treasure we want every head in the restaurant to be turned our way and mouths to be hanging open or smiling knowingly. Downtown Philly has a few secret places where you can get the good stuff. And do not say I didn’t warn you, these can be addicting to locals and tourist alike! Here’s a few of Philly’s finest desserts, you just have to try!
Downtown Philadelphia has a few great dessert spots. If you like gooey, sticky, chewy and sweet, Twenty Manning Grill located at 261 S 20th St just a block off of Rittenhouse Square serves extra large, Half Baked Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies nice and warm and topped with your favorite flavor of ice cream!
How does a Salted Caramel Chocolate Bar sound or Cocoa Nib Crunch or perhaps a Chocolate Macaroon these delicacies are part of the lunch desert menu at Fountain, located in the Four Season at 1 Logan Square, Downtown, Philly. Known for their scrumptious American French cuisine the Fountain offers an out of this world Vanilla Crème Brûlée on their dinner desert menu. Their Pistachio Cake Royale deserves mentioning too!
Baked Alaska, New York Style Cheesecake, Chocolate Fudge Cake! All delicious! All can be found at Butcher and Singer, the traditional American steak house located at 1500 Walnut Street.

CULINARY TERM OF THE WEEK: MELBA SAUCE – French Chef Auguste Escoffier created this delicious combination of pureed raspberries strained and mixed with red currant jelly, sugar and cornstarch for Aussie Opera Star, Dame Nellie Melba. Melba Sauce usually accompanies the Peach Melba Dessert but is also quite taste as an ice cream topping on fruit, pudding or on pound cake.
