There are quite a number of pizza shops on Nantucket and we've visited four of them to compare their products. In each case we ordered a small pepperoni pizza or a slice of pepperoni pizza and photographed and tasted them. Several people tasted samples from each establishment.
We looked at two "by-the-box" vendor's, Sophie T's and Pi Pizzeria and two "slice" vendors: Steamboat Pizza and Foood for Here and There.

| Sophie T's on Dave St provided the most traditional pizza by the box experience. Over several years, this had been a favoriet, but this pizza was a bit burned. | Pi Pizzeria on West Creek Road provides an excellent wood-fire pizza that has a bit of a smoky taste without being at all burned. |

| Steamboat Pizza on Broad Street is a classic by the slice business, but will be glad to sell you whole pizzas as well. The flavor and crust are excellent. | Foood for Here and There sells pizza by the slice and whole. The slice we tried was every bit as good as Steamboat Pizza's and a bit cheaper, but we observed a tendency for pizzas to be a bit burned later in the day. |

You can also get pizza by the slice at Daily Breads on Orange Street, but since they close at 3:30, it is available for the lunch trade only, and we are not including it in the comparison. |
So what's the conclusion? Of the two by-the-box vendors, Pi Pizzeria had the best pizza and of the two slice vendors, Steamboat Pizza served the best slice. Comparing the two, Pi Pizzeria's cheese had a slightly sour taste we were less fond of and Steamboat Pizza was a bit sweeter. This year's winner is Steamboat Pizza.
Note that so far we have not had a chance to try Muse Pizza at 44 Surfside Rd, but it is more of a sports bar, and the pizza by the slice is $4.55.

Very interesting research. Thank you. Gee, I remember when Muse pizza was a dollar. I guess I'm old.
