Both Pinkpop and Zurich received 29.4% while Utrecht 3/4/92 got absolutely zero votes.
So maybe my nominations were a little off, but when we get down to bracketing the shows against one another, Pinkpop will get honorable mention consideration if we need a show to make an even amount.
Onto 1993...
A lot of fans, myself included, really started paying attention to this band in 1993. Ten was the sort of sleeper album, that at least for me, took quite a while to slowly reveal itself as the masterpiece that it is. After “Crazy Mary” appeared on the Sweet Relief benefit and Pearl Jam debuted “Animal” on the ’93 VMA’s, fans were getting sick of the teases and went nuts on Vs., when it sold almost one million copies in its first week. Can you appreciate how big that number would have been had Pearl Jam made a video to promote the album?
For a band that was doing their best to keep a low profile, Pearl Jam was still everywhere – whether they liked it or not.
Though they could have commanded a headlining arena tour, instead the band did opening stints for U2 and Neil Young. When they were headlining, it was in theaters and clubs. The attempt to stay modest was noble, but all it did was shut out a majority of their rapidly growing fanbase from getting in to shows.
Vs. may have been Pearl Jam’s strongest ever chart splash, but by the end of 1993, their stock was still very much on the rise.
