Capturing life's moments through video and photography is one example of how technology has simplified the ability to create memories, but the seemingly endless ways to take, store, and share photos and videos have become for some, a maze of confusion.
I don’t scrap book but I’m obsessed with documenting my kid’s lives. I love make digital and hardcopy photo books for my family. We also like to email little video messages from my kids to my family members. I just hope they like them!
With a variety of online communities such as Vimeo, Facebook, Flickr, and Twitpic where you can upload video and photography, you don't have to wait for milestone events to share your memories with loved ones far away. That’s where my digital obsession has paid off…
Vimeo is one of the easiest and most attractive video sharing sites online and the one I use for all my videos on my blog, on my website. When I teach my Vlog seminars, I only recommend Vimeo because of its superior quality. My Go-To Mom shows are syndicated on 20 different web sites, however the Vimeo player has proven to have the best overall quality. Which for me is very important. You’ll never get a fuzzy image if your compress your movie files correctly! So what makes Vimeo so special?
First, anyone can create a free Vimeo account that allows you to post a lot of video footage each week. I don’t use the free account because it takes way too long to upload videos. I have a Vimeo PLUS account that, for $59.00 per year allows me instant unlimited HD or standard videos uploads to my all my blogs and social networking sites. Hey come on that’s only $5 bucks a month.
One element of the Vimeo PLUS account I find absolutely priceless is the "Privacy" feature. Privacy allows you to post videos to your Vimeo homepage and allow only invited guests to view the videos. This is great to use particularly when posting videos of your kids that you don't want the entire world viewing. You have the option to apply this feature to each video you post so if you do create what you think could be the next winner at Sundance, you can share it with the world.
There are no advertisements on Vimeo. Hello, NO Ads! That’s a good thing! So viewers of your video can concentrate on the video without distracting advertising streams.
Vimeo is FAST and EASY. I’ve spent hours learning other players. When I used Vimeo for the first time, it took me 10 minutes to learn and upload my first video. Awesome. We all know we can be ADHD and expect instant gratification when we’re online. Once you upload your video, you can determine whether to allow everyone to see the video or make viewing "Private." You can resize it to ANY SIZE and post to your blog or site within minutes. You can choose cute thumbnails for the first clip and event have your website link at the end of the video.
You can post your video to Facebook and basically any other social networking site that allows embedded codes. With a couple of clicks of the mouse, you can make your video viewable from any of your sites and still maintain the beautiful playback quality Vimeo offers.
To see what I’m talking about, take a look at my videos here. After only using Vimeo for one month I was so blown away by the player -- so I called them and pitched myself as their official mommy spokes person. Little did I know that they were looking for moms and dads to start using their players. I am honored and excited that Vimeo is an official sponsor of my www.Vlogamama.com workshops. Stop on by if you have some time!
