This is an incredibly simple dish to serve alongside the turkey and cranberry sauce. Oh sure, you can have your yams and sweet potatoes the same old bland way but why do that when Chef Larry Edwards can show you how to give them some life!
From One World - One Table, here is the Chef's recipe for Havana Yams! By-the-way, you can substitute sweet potatoes for the yams!
Ingredients needed for Havana Yams (serves 4 as a side-dish):
- 2 pounds yams (or sweet potatoes) peeled and cubed
- 3 Tbs. butter
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Steps:
- Into a medium pot of boiling water, add the yams and cook until tender.
- Drain the yams and discard the cooking water.
- Place the yams into a large serving bowl.
- Add the remaining ingredients, toss and serve.
Chef's Note: Though you are adding raw garlic to this dish, it will not be as overpowering as you might think. Due to the fact the yams are hot, the garlic will naturally steam itself after you have tossed the dish.
