Looking forward to the new fashions of 2013? As fashion crazed as some of us are, it’s always great to look forward to new fashion trends but we can’t step forward with looking past. Some trends we loved while others were hated while others inspired. Fashion is constantly recycled so who knows? 10 years from now we’ll be doing these fashion trends all over again.
Leather was one of the biggest trends of 2012. It was literally seen everywhere from skirts, to coats to shoes and of course pants. And not just all black either. This year leather came in different colors as well as embellished with accents to go with any personality.
Not many women may have been crazy about this trend but, yes the crop top came back this year. Luckily the trends was a more classier version with the crop top being cut longer that before, just short enough to barely cover the belly but not exposed it completely.
Wedges not only were a transitional shoe to carry you from one season to another but we got to catch a twist to the wedge that hasn’t been seen since the early 90s, the wedge sneaker. This time though the wedge sneaker had a lift that wasn’t just platform but a more comfortable cut to fit the foot better.
Steam punk and glitter made me want to find my bedazzler and bedazzle my wardrobe. Spikes and studs were seen as accents everywhere as well as glitter. Mainstreaming were steam punk inspired shoes as well as studded tops and glitter shoes. DIY tutorials were found all over the internet to show the world how to create these trends at home.
And while I have my bedazzler out, let’s not forget impact collars. From Peter Pan collars to bedazzled ones, the DIY world was abuzz with the latest tips to make your own designer replica at home.
Women have always dabbled with menswear but 2012 saw the return of the powerful pant suit. Not the shoulder padded pant suit of the 80s but a sleeker modern uptake of the suit. Seen on many celebrities and appropriate for both work wear and after parties, these new suits were bright, bold and fun to wear.
Another recycled trend that came back in full force is the peplum craze. Perfect for women of all sizes, the peplum sits perfectly on the waist and has that added flip that helps hide problem areas. Wonder why it took so long to make a comeback?
A big hit this past fall was the semi sheer skirt and the high low skirt. A great transitional piece these skirts made wearing them year round fun when worn with the correct shoes. Add another 2012 trend, a clutch to your look for a funky chic look.
What was your favorite trend of 2012? What trend did you love the most or could do without?
