It’s almost October and that means the Halloween season is upon us. Halloween is one of the most festive times of the year, and as always there’ll be plenty of happenings all over Long Island for funsters to enjoy and revel in the spirit of the season. Halloween is a time for ghosts and goblins, vampires and werewolves, and one of the most popular Halloween activities is visiting haunted houses or taking haunted hayrides where these monsters can scare you out of your wits. Long Island is a great setting for such marvelous mayhem and there are plenty of great spook fests to go around. Check out some of the best:
Spooky Walk, Moriches, NY
Yes, one of the originals and still one of the best is back at Camp Paquatuck in Center Moriches. The Spooky Walkis a 45 minute experience of frights in the perfect setting. Located on a campground full of wooded areas, a lake, and small buildings, this attraction is full of monsters, zombies and chainsaw wielding fiends at every turn. This year’s Spooky Walk takes place the last two weekends of October, on the 21st, 22nd, the 28thand 29th. The cost of admission is $12 and food and beverages are served. If you’re planning on visiting any of these frightful attractions this Halloween, this would be a great one to visit.
Schmitt Farms Haunted Mansion and Haunted Corn Maze, Melville, NY
Schmitt’s Family Farmson Pinelawn Road in Melville has been serving up chills and frights geared for just about anyone, and once again the farm is offering up two separate attractions for a frighteningly good time. Be it in the dark of night or the light of day, The Haunted Mansion and Haunted Corn Maze offer up frighteningly good times, respectively, for just about everyone. The Dark Side Haunted House, Calverton, NY
“Be prepared to be scared!”
For 13 years, The Dark Side Haunted Househas been scaring people nearly to death, and they’re back, beginning the weekend of September 30th. Culling itself as Long Island’s #1 attraction, The Dark Side lets visitors find out what it’s like to be the star in a real life horror movie. Every year, the attraction serves up exciting special events, so check out their website for more info, dates, times and directions.
Bayville Scream Park, Bayville
The Bayville Scream Parks consist of is Long Island’s “Scariest Haunted Houses” and has already been scaring early Halloween revelers since September 16th. Click the link within to check out their website and learn more about it.
Generally, these attractions are not meant for small children, so it’s always wise to leave the tikes at home so as not to give them nightmares straight through until Halloween. The actors in these attractions are usually unpaid volunteers, and touching visitors is never allowed. The same decorum is expected of patrons. With the immense popularity of these attractions, expect lines of up to an hour to get in.
