The district of East Falls in Philadelphia is home to some of the most interesting and diverse restaurants and bars in the area. Neighboring the running and biking trails of Kelly Drive, and the sprawling Schuylkill River are an incredible array of shops, eateries, and pubs just waiting to be explored.
The area is easily walkable, and is accessible by bus or Regional Rail. Out-of-towners needn't worry, as parking is certainly easier in the Falls than down in Center City, that's for sure.
We've detailed this East Falls gem before, but for those who may have missed it, this gastropub specializes in craft beer, a rotating drafts list, and an incredible variety of speakeasy-style cocktails. They were previously featured on Food Network's pseudo-reality show, "Mystery Diners," and are home to the most delicious bowl of macaroni and cheese anywhere. Folks interested in delicious cocktails or international brews would do well to stop by.
Serving up gourmet pizza and tasty beverages is the modus operandi for this riverfront restaurant. Featuring an inviting outdoor seating area and bicycle parking, this is one place where nearly anyone can feel right at home. With a charming selection of cocktails, wine, and beer, this contemporary take on the best of Southern Italy brings it right home for residents of the Falls.
Friendly neighborhood dive bars are a real treat, and visitors to East Falls will be hard-pressed to find anyone friendlier than Murphy and his staff. A local spot carrying standard drafts, cheap drinks, and great bar food — what's not to like? Specialty nights featuring wing specials and Quizzo are when the real fun is had, but it's not uncommon to also sit down and enjoy a quiet brew or two in the late afternoon.
Speaking of neighborhood dives, if Murphy's isn't what the doctor ordered, this one's right across the street. A sports bar featuring pleasing happy hour specials, Joe's makes casual and cheap drinks fun again. For those who enjoy a good game or two, the upstairs area provides two dartboards with electronic scoring, and Joe's even does regular Quizzo nights as well.
There's always something happening at Franklin's. An ample drafts list, craft brews, and interesting pub fare make this a happening place on any given night. Poker Mondays, Quizzo Tuesdays, open-mic Wednesdays, karaoke Thursdays, and DJ dance-party Fridays and Saturdays make way for the ever-lazy Sundays, and in spectacular fashion.
To be fair, East Falls is quite a small neighborhood, so the quantity of bars to choose from is negligible. There are several area establishments, however, whose mediocrity and general lack of personality disqualified them from consideration outright.
