The best and worst dressed of the 56th annual Grammy Awards

The 56th annual Grammy Awards for 2014 were held last night, Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA and the red carpet was as always the place to be to see the best and the worst in fashion. Although the Grammy Awards are centered around music, there's no stopping the stars coming out in their best and worse attire to represent the evening. Not as subdued as the Oscars, the stars tend to come out exhibiting their wild side and making some true fashion statements that tend to land them on the best and worse dressed lists. But not this year.

Katy Perry in Valentino Couture.
The best and worst dressed of the 56th annual Grammy Awards

This year all the stars were pretty tame on the runway and some like Lady Gaga and Rihanna who are know for their fashion (shock) sense didn't even walk the red carpet. Most stars played it safe while others decided to go a little out of the box by dressing alike like Madonna and her son David as well as Yoko Ono and her son Sean while Alicia Keys decided to push censor buttons in a super deep cleavage exposing plunged neckline dress. And that was pretty much it. Metal seems to be hot on the red carpet worn by not only Taylor Swift but also Rita Ora, Nicole Trunfio and Christy Teigan as well as red worn by Miranda Lambert, Cailie Colbet and Gloria Etefan.

No major side boob or butt, no disappearing pasties, no over the top fashion faux pas, but let's take a moment and discuss something that is probably bothering everybody today. What was the deal with Pharrell hat? From park ranger, to Smokey the Bear and even Royal Canadian Mountain Police Dudley Do-right that hat was seven kinds of wrong and then some even though it did turn out to be vintage Vivienne Westwood. Pharrell...the Grammys are not the time to go on a no mirror binge. Reserve that for the after parties.

The top 10 best dressed for the 56th annual Grammy Awards were:

  1. Katy Perry in Valentino Couture

  2. Taylor Swift in Gucci Premier

  3. Nicole Trunfio in Nicholas Oakwell Couture

  4. Miranda Lambert in Pamella Roland

  5. Pink in Johanna Johnson

  6. Christy Teigan in Johanna Johnson

  7. Anna Kendrick in Azzaro

  8. Amber Rose in Naeem Khan

  9. Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka

  10. Guliana Rancic in Alex Perry

As much as everyone loved Beyonce in that white Michael Costello white doily lace dress, it personally didn't meander into a spot on the top 10 dressed list because A. Her hair seriously needed some more attention and B. Even though there was a naked lining under the dress in some poses the lace threw a shadow to the nether regions giving it the appearance of...let's just say it made you look twice. But honorable mentions do go out to Keltie Knight (in Paolo Sebastian), Louise Roe (in Manning Cartell), Rita Ora (in Lanvin), Queen Latifah (in Carmen Marc Volvo), Tricia Davis (Macklemore's fiance in a beautiful white gown) and Ciara (in Pucci) for rocking the red carpet very chic and lovely!

The top 10 worst dressed for the 56th annual Grammy Awards were:

  1. Zendaya in Emanuel Ungaro

  2. Natasha Bedingfield in Christian Siriano

  3. Cara Quici in ??

  4. Malina Moye in ??

  5. Ashanti in Isabel Toledo

  6. Nadeea Volianova in ??

  7. Skylar Grey in Michael Costello

  8. Fantasia in ??

  9. Chrisette Michele in Etro

  10. Kaya Jones in ??

Stars like Paula Patton (in Nicolas Jebran and it has two heads!), Tierney Sutton (in Jordan Strauss), Sara Bareilles (in Blumarine) and Kacey Mugraves performance outfit (love the boots but hated the too short bedazzled and tassled dress) got a pass on the worst dressed list just because these listed above were so bad that their dresses looked like winners next to them. Same goes for Arianna Grande because although she was rocking a Dolce & Gabbana frock everything below was just wrong...pantyhose anyone?

Who did you think was your favorite and least liked dress of the evening? Leave a comment below and lets discuss!

(Editor's correction: Nicole Trunfio wore a Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown not vintage.)
