The benefits of morning sex: Why a sexy wake-up call should be on your agenda

The sun isn't the only thing that rises

Smacking your alarm clock like a hated enemy may come naturally to you when the sun rises, but instead of stumbling to the kitchen, drowning yourself in caffeine, and grimacing through a segment of Good Morning, America entitled “World’s Cutest Hamster Outfits,” you may want to reconsider your morning routine. And you can start by grabbing the genitalia lying beside you.

Scientists have found that people who start their day by getting frisky are all-around healthier and happier than those who bypass morning nooky. One reason your boss won’t toss his hot coffee in your face over a botched report if he’s had morning sex is that he’s swimming in feel-good oxytocin, a chemical that makes people feel warm and relaxed all day long. Morning sex can also boost your levels of IgA, an antibody that guards against infection. Skin may be more receptive to touch in the morning as nerves first wake up, giving each sensation an extra punch. And although this isn’t a statement backed up by Harvard scientists, I’d like to also add that morning sex, quite frankly, rocks.

There’s a reason your boyfriend looks like a sundial first thing in the morning. Morning wood comes naturally to men because their bodies are hardwired to want sex when the sun rises. While a guy sleeps, he experiences a buildup of testosterone, and these levels hit their peak during the three hours after he wakes. So what are you waiting for? Peel off his Batman boxers and give him something hotter than a latte to start his day. But a word of caution if you’re a guy doing the erotic wake-up call: Ladies need a little warning first. Waking up mid-penetration will make her feel more like a prison inmate than a seduced sex kitten.
