The Benefits of Getting Off The Couch

Despite the fact that it may be challenging to get kids off the couch every evening after dinner, it is possible to do this. Not only that, but once you become aware of some of the benefits of staying active, you will want to take an active role in making sure that your kids are active as often as possible.

Here are five known benefits of being active.

Kids will be happier

When kids exercise, there is a feel good hormone that is released, making them much more able to cope with life’s trials and tribulations. After a child exercises, she will feel peaceful and will be able to complete tasks well.

Kids will be more social

Kids who exercise will have higher self-esteem. Also, kids who exercise will be able to assert their wants and needs to other in real situations. Most of us need that kind of boost in our lives, and this is especially the case for kids.

Kids will be less sedentary

Most kids who exercise will be spared from the onset of diabetes and other diseases as well. This is probably because when a child moves every day, her blood will be circulating much more, and her blood sugar will be balanced much more than in a child who is sedentary.

Kids will be less obese and overweight

Kids’ who exercise every day, even if it is for as little as 30 minutes, will not be as obese or overweight as children who don’t exercise at all. When kids don’t exercise, they are prone to becoming overweight and obese by the time they become teenagers, if not before.

Kids will do better in school

Active kids can think clearer and can solve problems with more ease. There is no real consistent reason for this except that being active improves circulation and helps a child feel more motivated and successful. Sedentary children, on the other hand, feel unmotivated, unsuccessful, and sometimes even bad about themselves. This feeling can lead to low self-esteem over time.

Thus, it is essential for parents to get their kids off the couch and active. We have to find creative ways for kids to move before or after dinner, as often as possible. We should also try and encourage our kids to not only be active but to incorporate activity into their daily lives. This is one way to instil healthy habits in children.
