Nashville Singer/Songwriter/musician/producer best known for playing bass for the iconic rock band BOSTON has had an extremely challenging five months but you wouldn’t know it when speaking to her. Kimberley's pure optimism is contagious and her resilience unyielding.
You see, just a few days before Thanksgiving while Kimberley and her two kids were visiting her dad, she was in a horrific skiing accident that left her right shoulder dislocated and her arm broken in several places. One of the bones broken in her upper arm cut through major nerves that paralyzed her arm, wrist, hand, and fingers.
The good news is since the end of November 2012 her arm has now healed and isn't paralyzed. She's gaining strength everyday and with the help of her son they've taken it upon themselves to push the limits of her therapy every day. She can now feel everything again, her right shoulder, arm, elbow, hand and fingers.
Kimberley still struggles with temporary paralysis in the upward movement of her wrist and fingers. She can however move the fingers inward and has started lifting weights. Her doctor says it's only a matter of time.
Her disposition at this time in her life is more positive, grateful than I've ever seen in her. She's humbled by everyone's love and prayers. The outpouring of love has made her so grateful. Sure there's more work ahead but she says she's ready. Since she has experienced the love and kindness from people all over the world there's a new light and energy surrounding her.
The music community in Nashville came together and threw her a wonderful benefit on January 10th, 2013 because musicians know better than anyone how hard it is when you get hurt or sick and can't work. What most people don’t realize is that when musicians aren’t touring, they aren’t making money. Musicians are in fact sub-contractors and they don’t have disability insurance or medical insurance. That's why organizations like Music Cares exists and has also helped her pay one of her medical bills. A big high five and thank you to Music Cares!

Currently, another two benefit shows are being planned for this Spring to help raise money for her remaining medical bills and necessary continued physical therapy needs.
During that very special benefit in January, Kimberley took the stage with a dear friend and co-writer of many years Mr. Robert E. Wolf. They performed a song they'd just written as a gift to everyone who'd graciously coordinated and performed at her benefit. The song they wrote is called: “I Know Gratitude.” The music video of that moment is attached at the bottom of this article.
I visited with Kimberley last week and it was great to see that she's regained use of her arm. She's working on gaining back the strength of her fingers so that once again she can play guitar, bass and any other instrument she puts her mind to. Kimberley is hungry to get back out there and almost able to perform her solo shows as well as rocking' out on stage with her bands!!
While this sort of thing might've dampened the spirits and knocked down someone else, it's had quite the opposite effect of Miss Kimberley. She is turning adversity into triumph. This is what she had to say about her new projects and upcoming news:
Q What projects are you currently working on?
A I am finishing a new solo CD, the long awaited CD of Color 3 and a new demo CD, which will be more organic in nature. Since I write prolifically many of my originals might not get heard by my wonderful fans. This particular CD will be the bare bones of songs my fans might never get the chance to hear otherwise. A new website has been launched: www.KDSongs.com and several of my out of print CD’s are being made available on Amazon.com.
While all of the last few months weren't enough to knock her off her game, last weekend her dog Kitty was struck and killed by a trailer behind a truck. The death of this beloved furry family member really struck the family hard but once again, Kimberley is handling it with grace, love and patience. Her and her two heartbroken children are getting through another difficult challenge.
She is pressing on with the passion and pure love that we see shining through in her songs. Kimberley recently wrote this on her fan Facebook page, “The loss of my favorite dog in my whole life has left an empty feeling around the house but the kids and I are going to be ok. We're watching happy videos and photos to replace some horrible visions we experienced recently. Kitty was amazing and such great inspiration. She brought smiles to us every day. We will never forget her. We are very grateful for the time we had with her. May Kitty rest in Peace and bless those in heaven.”
Q I understand that you have a side project with band members Gary Pihl and Jeff Neal under the name of Color Three.
A Yes and this is moving forward and a CD will be released soon. You can read more about that: http://colorthree.com/home.html
Kimberley also tells me she was also just named the Music Director in a new project called, Aussies to America, where she will be assisting aspiring Australian music artists in the fulfillment of their dreams by creating a fabulous project with the best recording studios, engineers, session players and producers in the business. She will be co-producing the projects and showing the artists the real Nashville because for someone who not only doesn’t live in Nashville and have the connections, it is even harder for them to get connected coming in from a different country. You can read more about “Aussies to America” by going to Facebook and typing in Aussies to America or by going to www.InsideTheSong.com and clicking on the link that says Aussies to America.
What the future holds for Kimberley or any of us for that matter, nobody can be sure but the one thing we can be sure of is that this lady has spirit, drive and faith enough for all of us and that we will surly see and hear from her real soon as she shares with us her beautiful music.
In the meantime while recuperating, Kimberley is accepting bookings for the spring and until she's able, she'll be bringing a guitarist with her for these events. You can find out more about booking Kimberley by contacting her booking agent at: www.InsideTheSong.com
