Many of us would love the opportunity to have a beauty house call from a make-up artist, manicurist or hair stylist -- oh so Housewives of Beverly Hills -- but the harsh reality is that there are thousands of people with illnesses or conditions that prevent them from getting out to a salon or spa. What do they do when they need a lift or some grooming maintenance?
The Beauty Bus Foundation is a cool foundation that delivers dignity, and hope to chronically or terminally ill men, women and children and their caregivers through beauty and grooming services and pampering products. Beauty Bus focuses on the importance of quality of life services, an integral part of healing and coping for both the patient and caregiver.
Here's what they provide:
* In-Home Beauty and Grooming Services: Beauty Bus’ core program provides in-home beauty and grooming services, free of charge, to patients whose illness or condition prevents them from accessing a salon or spa and their caregivers. Services includes mani/pedi's for men and women, facials, shaves, haircuts, blowdry/styling and make-up application.
* Pop-Up Salons: Beauty Bus creates Pop-Up Salons where patients and caregivers receive a variety of complimentary beauty and grooming services in a setting that promotes support and serenity.
* Bag of Beauty Program: Beauty Bus gives complimentary Bags of Beauty filled with pampering products to remind patients and caregivers that they deserve to look and feel beautiful.
Beauty Bus gives these services for FREE to those who qualify. Clients may receive four services in each 12 month period free of charge.
Beauty Bus is now looking for volunteers! If you are a licensed nail technician, hairstylist, esthetician or professional make-up artist who wants to use their talent to touch the lives of chronically and terminally ill people and their caregivers, you can volunteer to become a A Beauty Professional.
Even if you don't have mad beauty skills, you can sign up to be a Beauty Buddy - someone who goes with the Beauty Professional to the client's home just to be a bud and assist in brightening someone's day for a few hours a month.
The next training day for Beauty Bus volunteers is February 10th. You can download a volunteer application here: http://www.beautybus.org/volunteers/
Why volunteer? Here's a heartwarming testimonial from a Beauty Buddy:
"For our clients, our Beauty Bus visit was a break from the hardships of disease, from doctors visits, and insurance paperwork; for me, it was a magical day, a day that reminded me how simple acts of kindness go a long, long way.”
– Lindsay M., Beauty Buddy
What a fantastic way to give back and get a new perspective when the comparatively little struggles in our own lives are getting us down.
If you'd like to donate money to this cause, Beauty Bus takes Mastercard, Visa or Discover.
