Please introduce yourself to the readers:
Hi my name is Stacey Kenealy. I was born and raised on the beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia and I have an avid passion for the entertainment industry. I’m a professional Dancer, Model, and Actress who has been fortunate to combine my love of performing with my zest for traveling. I’ve worked around the world; Paris, Italy, Belgium, Thailand, The Philippines, Malta, Moscow, Singapore, and Malaysia, (to name a few), but am currently based in Sydney, Australia.
Being able to combine my skill sets and cross over the fields of dancing, modeling and acting keeps my work schedule fresh and interesting and keeps me on my toes! I can go from shooting a campaign, to rehearsing for commercial dance gigs that sees me travel nationally or internationally, to shooting television commercials for brands such as Toyota and Australia’s Next Top Model. I thrive on the variety; it plays a huge part in why I love what I do!
I live a vibrant and healthy lifestyle filled with exercise (reformer pilates obsessed) and clean eating. As a qualified personal trainer, I understand the importance of finding a balanced exercise regime with a nutritious diet, and I work hard at maintaining a healthy way of living that creates a happy mind, body and soul.
How and when did you first get into performing?
I started dance classes at the age of four, after watching my sister dance at a local school. Very soon after, I participated in my first Eisteddfod tapping to “Rubber Ducky”. I had my first taste of the professional world at the age of 12, when I booked my first international gig performing in a children’s show produced by Millennium Entertainment in Dubai. The experience opened my eyes to the possibility of having a career that allowed me to perform and travel. After graduating high school, I toured on a commercial dance contract performing in Singapore and Malaysia, completed my first stage production contract in Australia, and secured a contract in Paris to perform in The Moulin Rouge.
Who were some of your biggest inspirations?
One of my biggest inspirations growing up and still to this day, is Jennifer Lopez. She is a female powerhouse that has mastered all fields in the entertainment industry. Not only is she a successful dancer, actress, singer and producer, Jlo is also extremely business savvy. Using her position as a global icon, she has created her own business empire consisting of clothing lines, fragrances, a production company and a charitable foundation amongst other business interests. She is a true chameleon. Following her career and seeing her successful business ventures, inspires my drive to want to find my own success in different facets of the industry.
What kind of have training have you done?
I have trained intensely in all styles of dance; Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Tap, Classical and Acrobatics. My preferred style to dance is jazz, or more specifically commercial jazz.
Acting wise, I have done a number of short courses to get a feel for different styles and techniques. Some courses being at NIDA and under the direction of renowned Australian acting coach Sandra Lee Patterson.
What have been your favorite roles to play so far?
My favorite role to date, would have to be performing in Paris and touring internationally with The Moulin Rouge. Other career highlights include; dancing with Ricky Martin and Jessica Mauboy at the Australian NRL grand final 2013, performing with Australian pop group Human Nature, and performing with various artists on reality music television show The X Factor. Moat recently, I also loved shooting for David Jones’ Autumn/Winter Brand book, and being the face of Lipton Ice Tea for their Australian and New Zealand campaign.
What have been some of your most recent projects?
One of my most recent projects was in Europe, where I performed along side Australian R&B and Pop artist Jessica Mauboy. We were representing Australia and the Gold Coast in the 2014 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony.
I also recently shot a campaign for international active wear brand, Lorna Jane.
What are your plans for the future?
I definitely plan to continue working and broadening my depth of work in Australia. My career ambitions are to move to the United States and work among some of the best in the industry. I’d love to perform with world-class artists, and to pursue more television and film. Whether it be presenting for well known networks, starring in a dance film or kicking some serious behind in an action blockbuster!
What is your advice to aspiring performers?
Find what fuels your passions, push your boundaries, and excel in all genres or as many things as possible! Being an all-rounder opens doors and creates many more opportunities for performers later on. Be humble, kind and respectful of your peers and anyone you work with/for, and always trust your gut instinct! Whether it be about contracts, friends or any life decision in general, never underestimate the power of intuition. It will always lead you down the right path!”
