Premiere Stages, Kean University’s performing arts collective, is known for its riveting performances and productions that are compelling glimpses into the human condition. This season, Premiere Stages is scheduled to put on The Beautiful Dark. An emotional drama crafted by Erik Gernand, The Beautiful Dark is a play about a mother’s turmoil (Nancy) as she tries to figure out if her son (Jacob) may be planning an attack on his school. The information comes innocently after she discovers that he’d been working on a graphic play. But, the story quickly starts to change when she realizes that he’d been expelled from school because of it and the man carrying out the garish acts in the rendition, eerily sounds just like Jacob. As the evidence mounts, Nancy must confront deep seeded fears and grapples with the question ‘Is Jacob capable of the unthinkable?’ The Beautiful Dark, winner of the Premiere Stages Play Festival, will open at the Zella Fry Theatre in Kean University’s Vaughn Eames (CVPA) building on September 5 through the 22.
