The Beatles' second movie 'Help!' -- or 'Around the World in 90 Minutes'

The Beatles followed the critical and audience success of "A Hard Day's Night" in 1964 with "Help!" in 1965. And it was a contrast to AHDN in almost every way. It was in color, not in black-and-white. While AHDN was grounded a little in reality, "Help!" was even less so and was basically a James Bond-type story. Where AHDN stayed in England and didn't travel very far, "Help!" went across the world.

The movie "Help!" is the subject of the latest podcast by the Fab Fourum and their serious (well, almost) weekly discussion of the Beatles. Hosts Ken Michaels, Mitch Axelrod, Tony Traguardo and Rob Leonard discuss the story and the history behind the film, as well as the film itself.

How do the Beatles' performances in "Help!" compare to those a year earlier in "A Hard Day's Night"? How does the scripted film that "Help!" is compare to the more realistic approach of "A Hard Day's Night"? How did that change, if at all, how "Help!" showcased their personalities? And which Beatle do you think had the most natural acting abilities?

Help isn't much of a movie but it is a series of great videos: The Ticket to Ride Ski video, the hilarious Another Girl spoof, the Night Before sung in a battlefield, the opening Help video. Who cares about the plot? The only thing worth watching are the moments when the boys come on the screen and do their thing.

This was mentioned in the podcast, but I also love the scene where they all go in the house and it's one big room. John's sunken bed was very cool.
