Hip Hop has always been the landscape of hard drums and deep bass thats crafted some of the most genius influenced production in all genres of music. Recently more and more apspiring hip hop artist are taking their chance at being producers and there is no better way to get feed back than to compete in The Beat Lounge Beat Battle. Anchored by the founder Kontrax aka Tino, The Beat Lounge Beat Battle has been going on for seven years. The way its set up there is three judges,and one dj, the contestants pay an entry fee and their matched up with other producers. Each contestant gets to play the beat of their chocie that they feel will be a crowd pleaser. The three judges make that decision who has the best track. I ask Kontrax about the start of the beat battle and also the latest merger with Elementz Hip Hop Cultral Arts Center.
"My whole vision behind the The Beat Lounge Beat Battle was to create a venue where people from Cincinnati can network. Me being music producer I felt this was a perfect platform for other music producers to exchange ideas and challenge each other to get better. It was never meant to be negative its all positive", "Its one of the best networking venues I've ever been to I love it", express Nitty Morris one of the talent coordinators for Elementz.
When being asked about the recent merger with Elementz Kontrax explained the idea behind that and the vision for future endeavor,
"My vision behind merging with Elementz was to be housed in their facilty to give people a place to enjoy seeing The Beat Battle along with that I gain a responsiblity to facilitate a beat making program with Elementz and they teamed me up with Nitty Morris who works with kids to develop talent.
"Basiclly my program is based on artist development starting from song writing, recording, performances, interviews, how to conduct an interveiw ,crowd engagement and wardrobe", Nitty Morris explained.
Recently The Beat Lounge Beat Battle has spawn the careers of several producers coming out of Cincinnati and from the looks of it maybe even more. The merger with Elemenz should create a greater presence and appreciation for the hip hop culture. The Beat Lounge Beat Battle will take place tonight and every first friday at 7:30pm 1100 Race St.
