There are few things more relaxing and luxurious than the feeling of soft sand under your toes and the sounds of waves crashing on the beach. While many consider a private beach escape to be a faraway fantasy, the reality is that some of the best and most secluded beach vacations in the world can be found right next door in The Bahamas, often only an hour’s flight from South Florida.
With so many stunning beaches to choose from, it’s no wonder The Bahamas has served as a backdrop for numerous swimsuit catalog, magazine and film shoots. There is plenty of white and pink sand to go around on the 700 Islands Of The Bahamas, but we’ve put together a list of highlights to help guide you towards the perfect paradise for you to vacation like a star.
Hidden Treasure
You saw it in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest as the striking backdrop to a battle for treasure. The Exumas are known for starkly white beaches and multiple hues of turquoise blue waters, and it is easy to find your way to a public beach with plenty of privacy. Check out Tropic of Cancer beach on Great Exuma to escape from it all.
Bikini Beauties
Jack Sparrow wasn’t the only one to cast an anchor on these shores. Sports Illustrated has also found hidden treasure in The Islands Of The Bahamas, conducting multiple swimsuit shoots throughout the years. In fact, The Exumas most recently served as one of the key locations for the highly anticipated Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2013, which hit newsstands on February 12 and celebrated some of its most iconic past covers with swimsuits recreated from body paint.
40 years ago, Great Exuma also caught the eye of SI Swimsuit, gracing the cover of the 1973 issue and another Exuma location, Norman Cay served as backdrop on the cover in 1966. The famous pink sand beaches of Harbour Island were also featured on the covers of 1997 and 2006 issues, while white sand beaches of Andros Island covered the 2005 issue.
Red-Hot Sunset
The beaches on The Bahamas capital of Nassau have a long-standing history as a shoot location for James Bond films, from 1965’s “Thunderball” to the 2006 “Casino Royale.” But, it was Pierce Brosnan playing another character that drew new attention to the island on the big screen in the 2004 production, "After the Sunset". Director Brett Ratner was quoted saying that it was “the color, the quality of light and water, the music, and the friendly vibe” that stimulated his senses.
