Kristen Clark, a Certified Social Work Case Manager (C-SWCM) and Sr. VP of Mansbach Health Tools, LLC, is proud of the growth and acceptance of the BCAT Approach saying “There are more than 1,500 facilities around the world using the using the BCAT cognitive assessment tool, which can identify cognitive impairment in older adults.”
The BCAT Assessment Tool can only be administered by professionals certified by Mansbach Health Tools, LLC, founded by William E. Mansbach, Ph.D., CEO and developer of the BCAT (Brief Cognitive Assessment Tool).
Individuals don’t have to work for a health care institution to become certified. Social Workers, Case Managers and Geriatric Managers in private practice, as well as physicians, rehabilitation therapists, and psychologists use the BCAT Test System. They also use the BCAT Brain Rehabilitation Program and the BCAT Recreation program.
According to Clark, “The BCAT Test System consists of five screening tools that allows the administrator to accurately assess current cognitive and mood functioning.”
“Brain rehabilitation is a loss and restoration process, based on cognitive exercises that promote brain cells (neurons) to improve functioning,” according to the company’s web site.
Also from the web site, “The BCAT Recreation Program is designed to assist in helping residents meet the goals of improving life satisfaction, reduce problems of mood, and add meaning to life by creating a person-centered approach to recreation.”
After taking part in the assessment process, the patient is given a report outlining the results which might show no cognitive impairment, mild cognitive impairment or severe impairment. The BCAT results can be shared with the patient’s primary care giver and can be used in determining specific treatments.
Clark is currently working on a train the trainer program for those who want to be able to train others to become certified in the BCAT Approach. For those who are interested in knowing if a BCAT is appropriate for them they can do a self-assessment exercise on the company’s website.
To become certified one needs to take the three hour course online or in a classroom setting and pay a reasonable annual license fee to Mansbach Health Tools, LLC and you can find out more by visiting BCAT.
