It was the battle of the Eagles at the Target Center in Minneapolis on March 21, 2013, as the Apple Valley Eagles tipped off against the Eden Prairie Eagles in the first of two semifinal games in the Class AAAA Minnesota State High School League basketball tournament. The tightly played game belonged to the Eagles of Apple Valley from almost the start of the game. The final score was 62-55 Apple Valley defeating Eden Prairie.
The Apple Valley Eagles are led by Minnesota’s top recruit Tyus Jones who scored 23 points and tallied five assists, six steals and two rebounds. The Eagles had a trio of leaders with Anthony Anderson picking up a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jack Cottrell scored 15, pulled in eight rebounds and had two assists and two blocks. Grant Schaeffer rounded out the double digit scorers for Eden Prairie with 12 points.
Eden Prairie briefly led in the first half but after the half the game belonged to Apple Valley who led for the final minutes of the first half and the entire second half. Apple Valley led by as much as ten before Eden Prairie closed the gap to one. In the end Apple Valley’s relentless pressure was too much for the Eden Prairie squad.
Apple Valley will move on to Saturday’s final against the winner of the Edina Hornets and Park Center Pirates semifinal game.
