Dictionary.com defines victory as a success or triumph over an enemy in battle or war. According to The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, the Hebrew term for victory is derived from the word kabash meaning to tread down; hence to discard, to conquer, subjugate, bring into bondage, force, keep under, subdue, bring into subjection. Also as in footstool (as to trodden upon.)
Many Christians today, right at this moment may not feel quite like champions of victory. In fact with the weight of adversities and the heaviness of life's trials piled upon us like a load of bricks, many of us take on the battle only to find ourselves losing. In our own might we are but flesh and blood, weak vessels prone to defeat under the enemies' attack but in Him we are made strong and can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13 NKJV.)
There is encouragement through God’s word today for all of His children who are called by His name and will hear His voice and obey. I Corinthians 15:57 NKJV reads "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." Even though we might be at a place that feels less than victorious, in God we become more than conquerors through Him (Jesus Christ) that loved us (Romans 8:37 NKJV) but that’s not even the best part!
In the bible book of II Chronicles there was a great battle about to take place. King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah and Jerusalem were coming under physical attack by the people of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir. The king and his people were afraid but they called upon the Lord and reminded Him of His word. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel who then encouraged King Jehoshaphat with a word from the Lord saying "Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s." Then in verse 17 goes on to say “You will not need to fight this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” What an awesome word!
King Jehoshaphat and his people bowed down before the Lord and worshipped Him, after which they were instructed only to sing praises unto God and believe. To reiterate, they were not instructed to fight or even attempt to defend themselves. As they began to sing and praise the bible says in verse 22 that “the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.” The people of Judah did not have to lift a sword or a single weapon only obey and God moved on their behalf and defeated their enemies! Talk about a victory!!!
What battle are you fighting today that you simply need to give over to the Lord? It could be a physical, emotional, natural or even spiritual battle. Lift your hands oh ye people and sing praises unto God for today you HAVE the victory because the battle is not yours but it is the Lord’s!!!
