When “Sons of Anarchy" wraps at the end of season 7, creator Kurt Sutter will begin work on a new series entitled “The Bastard Executioner” for FX. According to a Feb. 5 post on International Business Times, the writer wants to take a break for a few years before starting the “SoA’ prequel series.

The new project is set in medieval times and has already been given a pilot green light. The series will focus on a knight during the reign of King Edward III. The warrior is broken by what he has seen of war and vows to lay down his sword. When violence again finds him, he is forced to pick it up “the bloodiest sword of all”.

Sutter will write the scripts and executive produce the series along with Brian Grazer. “The Bastard Executioner” will begin filming the pilot episode later this year, after “Sons of Anarchy” has aired the finale.

FX and Sutter have been together for 13 years and counting. Sutter came up as a writer and then became executive producer on “The Shieeld” before taking on the dual role of creator/executive producer for ‘SoA.’ FX CEO John Langraff credits him for two of the network’s most successful shows ever.
