This Wednesday, May 5th, The Base Camp will host The Banff Mountain Film Festival from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Lincoln Center Auditorium in Billings. Tickets may be purchased in advance at The Base Camp ($8.50 adult, $6.50 student) or at the door ($10 adult, $8.00 student). The film festival, began by The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada in 1976, is celebrated as the largest and most popular mountain film festival in the world. This year, 277 entries from 28 different countries were submitted to The Banff Centre. From these entries, 8 films covering various topics will be shown during the festival’s world tour stop in Billings.

Africa Revolutions Tour follows a group of professional kayakers who embark on a dangerous expedition to bring solar ovens to those in need from the White Nile of Uganda to the unexplored falls of Madagascar. A short film, Deep/Shinsetsu, depicts the experience of powder skiing in Japan. Alex Honnold, a 24-year-old rock climber, faces the challenge of completing the first free-solo ascent of the ‘Regular Northwest Face’ route of Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome in First Ascent: Alone on the Wall. Take a Seat chronicles the two-year journey of Dominic Gill from Alaska to the southern tip of South America on a tandem bicycle, persuading strangers he meets along the way to help him peddle the distance. Nordic skiing and stunts are the focus of The Ultimate Skiing Showdown, while Mont-Blanc Speed Flying showcases downhill skiers rushing down the highest mountain in the Alps. The Billings festival lineup also includes Kranked-Revolve, an adrenaline packed mountain biking film, and the humorous Project Megawash, showing the development and testing of the world’s highest waterslide. Check out some of the film trailers on The Base Camp’s website.

The Base Camp will also host the film festival in Helena on Friday, May 7th, at the middle school auditorium. If you enjoy exhilarating footage of outdoor activities and beautiful scenery, don’t miss out on this opportunity to catch The Banff Mountain Film Festival in Montana!
