Obviously Toronto Blue Jays' J.P. Arencibia knew how to "get hip to Kimberly Perry's heart," because she has accepted his marriage proposal, according to The Tennessean in an article dated Tuesday, October 1.
The Band Perry's lead singer has been dating Arencibia, the Blue Jays' starting catcher for the past year-and-a-half. The proposal which was everything that Perry had dreamed of since she was a little girl took place on Monday night at her parent's home in Greeneville, TN.
Perry thought she was picking her boyfriend up at the airport that night, and had no idea that she was going to be in for such a surprise.
"The Postcard from Paris" singer and her family made the move to a 15-acre area with a large oak tree when she was a teenager.
That large oak tree immediately struck a chord in her heart. From the first time she saw that tree, she hoped that “if I get proposed to in this life, I hope it happens underneath this tree.”
Before the big moment took place, Perry thought her family was simply meeting to go to dinner. However, they called her outside to find Arencibia standing under that very oak tree.
“I saw that and I thought, ‘This is really happening,’ ” she said.
Realizing that this was everything she had waited for, her mother got her to come back into the house to put on her favorite pink dress that she had always hoped to be wearing if she were to engaged. Just like a perfect country song, when Perry got to the room she found her dress, a letter from her family and a bracelet that her grandfather and given her grandmother “way back in the day” when they started dating.
Upon reading the letter, putting on the bracelet and dress, she was ready to go back outside to her prince charming.
“I came back out on the front porch and he was standing there and he got down on one knee. It was perfect.”
Just in case you're wondering, the entire Perry family approves of Arencibia, which is of course very important to the newly-engaged singer.
The couple's connection was seemingly instant. They met in February of 2012 at a Strawberry Fest in Florida. Arencibia watched the show from the audience, but had connections to get backstage. Upon meeting the blonde songstress, he gave her his phone number. The pair started dating a few months later.
This wasn't the first time that Arencibia had laid eyes on his future wife though. When he first watched the "If I Die Young" music video, he says he had a moment where he felt like "this was going to be part of his future."
Their relationship soon blossomed as the couple knew they had something that they had never felt or experienced before. Perry says she knew he was the one because of his understanding of her fast-paced career, the confidence she felt in their relationship when they were apart, and how they still feel emotionally and spiritually connected even when they're apart.
The pair plans to say "I Do" next summer.
