The Baltimore Ravens don't need God on the sidelines...uh oh!

Man, oh man! Some people don't know when to stop talking. It's good to be confident but to be so full of pride that you say that you don't need God. Now you're walking on thin ice. What am I talking about? Well this morning I'm looking at headlines on the web and I see that Baltimore Ravens linebacker, Terrell Suggs, said something about Denver Bronco quarterback, Tim Tebow. As a Raven fan, I know that #55 is known for his trash-talking, so I don't take it so seriously. Sometimes Suggs' comments can be quite entertaining. Nonetheless, even with the Ravens being my team,  I do have a love for a young Christian brother who exalts the Lord and has made such a strong stand on behalf of Jesus Christ. No team loyalty supersedes my love for the Christian brethren. So as I click past the headline I see what Suggs said. The statement  read: "With all due respect, we don't need God on our sidelines. Once again God had to save Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. He couldn't even give them two drives. Seven to three?"

The offense of his statement has nothing to do with Tim Tebow; it's all about God. Moreover, as if that wasn't enough, Suggs put all of his teammates in a statement that disrespects and minimizes God's importance. Any real Christian on the Ravens team would be furious to be included in a statement which says that they don't "need God on our sidelines." Maybe Mr. Suggs doesn't realize that even the honor of being considered for "Defensive Player of theYear," did not come by his own strength. Really, what does he have that God didn't give him? If we start with the fact that God gave him life, he is already indebted to Him.

It's a shame that so many people are so intimidated and bothered by Tim Tebow's stance as a Christian. He's not bothering anybody. He's simply being who He is and giving all glory to His Lord. That's strange to people who elevate themselves to such heights that they forget there is a God.  Why do they forget? They forget because they have made themselves their own God. However, God is the great leveler of the puffed-up and of those who believe they are strong and mighty on their own merit. The word of God says, " But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty (I Corinthians 1:27)."

And another thing...God is never on the sidelines of His children's lives. He goes before them. He leads them, guides them, protects and saves them. So if,  as Mr Suggs said, God had to "save Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos..." how blessed are they? If God be for them who can be against them (Romans 8:31)? On the other hand,  with the play-offs ahead of them, I sure hope the Ravens don't need saving. If so, where will their help come from since in Suggs opinion, they don't need help from God?  I guess in Suggs they trust.
