'The Bachelor' recap: how much of this did we know already?

"The Bachelor:" where mud-slinging happens.
"The Bachelor:" where mud-slinging happens.
ABC

We learned something on Monday night's "special" episode of "The Bachelor:" we haven't really learned that much about these people at all. As it turns out, the show left a few surprises until the end -- and even gave us some entertaining footage. (Who knew that some of these contestants are so goofy, or that Jessie was more than a invisible contestant?)

However, let's be honest: this special should have only been an hour. We didn't need to see a recap, or a series of clips on how the past "Bachelor" contestants are doing. Everyone was watching tonight for two reasons: Ali and Rozlyn. Unfortunately, neither one of those moments felt necessarily like a "real" experience.

For Ali, so much of it felt like a deliberate attempt to set her up as the next "Bachelorette." She talked about the heartache she went through thanks to Jake, and even how she hoped to "choose love" if she was given another chance someday. Then, to make sure all loose ends were tied up in a neat little bow, she preceded to talk about how she has buried the hatchet with Vienna.

On the opposite side of things, the Rozlyn discussion was probably something that never should have happened. Was it full of juicy gossip? Most definitely, but it's impossible to ever know the full story without being there. It's probably true that Rozlyn entered into an "inappropriate relationship" with a staff member -- in a way, it may even be the best thing that happened to both her and the show this season. People have been talking like never before, and Rozlyn managed to make an entire career out of two episodes of reality TV. Win-win? At least in terms of the ratings.

I do feel bad for host Chris Harrison to have to sit there and take Rozlyn firing off her own accusations about him. I'm surprised ABC kept her quote in about the host wanting an "inappropriate relationship" of his own with the shamed producer's wife, but at least you can say they were trying to be fair.

The preview (coupled with Jake's words earlier) also made one other thing clear: Tenley has next to no chance of getting the final rose.

Jake's the best bachelor the show's ever had. I'd give him an armfull of roses! Only thing I had against last night's show is the clips of former bachelors and -ettes were too short to recognize when we remember them from. Also, that that guy from Central Texas who checked out European women for his wife-to-be was not included. Does anyone know whatever happened to him?
