Following a chaotic trip with his potential ladies to Montana, Sean was ready for a fresh start in Alberta, Canada on the Tuesday, Feb. 5 episode of 'The Bachelor.' The ladies and their Prince Charming were surrounded by beautiful lakes and mountains on this excursion. ‘The Bachelor’ felt more optimistic than he had in the previous episode.
Not surprisingly, Catherine scores the first date. Though the Seattle Washington Graphic Designer and Mr. Lowe had a slow start, their growing chemistry is becoming undeniable. With the exception of Desiree and Lindsay, Catherine definitely seems to be the girl that Sean feels most comfortable with. She’s quirky and has a positive energy while also showing her intelligence. Sean is completely impressed with her, and loves how she is a combination of things. The two spend their date in what might as well be a blizzard, but they seemed to enjoy every minute of it. Sean confirms that Catherine has passed the blizzard test, and it became apparent that she is perhaps passing ALL the tests.
After a horse and carriage ride to an ice castle, Sean tells her that it just “clicks” between them. She then shows Sean yet another side of herself by opening up and speaking from the heart. She revealed that she was in the middle of a tragedy when she was 12 years old at summer camp. A tree came crashing down and killed the girl in front of her. Not only did she narrowly escape death, but at a young age she watched how quickly life can be ripped away. She said that her early traumatic experience has made her who she is. Predictably, he gave her a rose, saying she has melted his heart, and he can see himself with her (and at least 4 other girls of course).
Meanwhile Daniella is confused because she didn’t get a one-on-one date yet again. Understandably, she is the one that Sean hasn’t given any true chance, yet has kept around for some reason. Instead, he chose Desiree for another date.
Then came another group date with Sean and his nine hopefuls. As we know, every date on ‘The Bachelor’ has to be an adventurous challenge date. This time the girls have to get in canoes and make their way to the other end of the lake. Lesley M. decides to become more aggressive and jumped into the canoe with Sean. Sean seemed to enjoy her upfront manner, while the other girls sneered. Poor Sarah was a trooper once again as she tried to paddle with one arm, but as always, she made it through optimistically.
Next up was the polar bear plunge. Seriously? Can they do anything on this show that doesn’t involve risking one’s life? No, they can’t. The women were instructed to strip down to their bathing suits and to go completely under water in these freezing conditions.
Right away, Selma was completely opposed to the challenge. Most of them didn’t want to do it, but they went against their own wishes, and did it for Sean. Selma didn’t budge though, and it was at that moment that she might as well have written her own ticket home.
Dramatic Tierra began shivering uncontrollably. Whether it was a typical Tierra act or the real deal, it looked pretty real, and may have actually been hypothermia. The “Tierraist” as Lesley called her was folded over with mascara running down her cheeks. She seemed unresponsive and confused. Once again, an Ambulance was called. Most of the girls are indifferent about if they feel sorry for her or not. They have decided she is the ‘boy who cried wolf.’ Of course Sean comes in to comfort her as she is hooked up to an oxygen tank. It is clear that she really has him wrapped around her finger. He suggested that she stay in bed rather than go out to the party.
Sean takes Desiree on their date, and wants to restore her confidence in him. He felt that the two were over-do and he wanted to put her at peace and at ease. However, danger is of course first required. The two must first get down a 400 foot mountain so that they can picnic below. Desiree seemed a little nervous, but she pulled it off, and was rewarded with the picnic. The two playfully climb a tree together, and their connection was obviously still there. Once again, Sean and Desiree seemed to be back on track. Later, back in a teepee Desiree admits that she didn’t grow up with money, and that she and her family lived in tents, trailers, and small apartments, and that is what has made her so humble. She doesn’t seem to have any bitterness over her struggles, acknowledged her parents pulled it off well, and her openness impressed Sean. She stressed that she was taught to love and to constantly put others first, while never taking anything for granted. Sean tells the camera he could seeing himself proposing to her, and gives her a rose.
Second to Lesley’s ‘Tierraoist’ quote of the night, Desiree said, “I opened up about spending some of my life in a tent, and now here I am falling in love in a teepee.”
Much to the girl’s disappointment, Tierra later showed up and crashed the party. However, Sean had decided that today presented a turning point with…….Lesley. The political consultant opened up and admitted her deep feelings for him. Sean really loved her energy and gave her the rose.
Later during some one-on-one time Sarah showed him family pictures and her as a little girl. She even mentions him meeting her family, and at that moment, it was obvious that Sean wasn’t sure how to feel about that. As heartbreaking as it was, it was looking as if Sarah was on the chopping block.
Once again, Tierra gets more attention with Sean.
Sean realized that night that he just doesn’t see a ‘forever’ with Sarah, and said it was the hardest decision so far. He decided he doesn’t want her to wait around when it just isn’t meant to bed. Sean asks to steal Sarah from the group, pulls her aside, and tries his best to not hurt her….but is of course unsuccessful. She admitted that she was hurt, surprised, and caught off guard.
What Sarah said following her release was probably one of the most universally true statements that women ache over following a breakup: She said she’s tired of hearing, “You’re an amazing girl. I know how special you are. I want to connect with you so bad….but I don’t….and I know someone is going to be so lucky to have you.” The sweet soul said she hears this a lot, and doesn’t want to be told about how great she is and what she deserves forever. Speak it, sister! Seriously though….this was the most heartbreaking moment on this season. Hopefully it isn’t long before some good man comes into her life, and actually gives her what they all say she deserves.
Later Selma decides to kiss Sean even though it is a huge shame to her family due to their religious beliefs. It was closed mouth kiss that Sean seemed to appreciate, but would he be able to get past her rejecting the polar bear plunge earlier?
AshLee wore a blindfold, and opened up about letting go of control. Lindsay and Sean laughed it up, and he called her the total package saying he feels very comfortable with her.
At the rose ceremony, Sean once again says the classic line of “This decision is the toughest decision I’ve made thus far.” For real, Sean? How do you figure?
Selma and Daniella are sent packing. Selma tells the camera she has had a rough go with love, and is leaving with a heartbreak and a memory. Daniella said she feels rejected. She never got a shot with Sean, and then is sent packing. “I’m over having a broken heart,” she said.
In addition to Lesley and Desiree's classic quotes of the night, Sean adds one of his own along the lines of: 'I know that you six are the right ones for me.' Seriously. I don't think he meant he wants to become a polygamist, but it came out so wrong.
As the tears continue, what can we expect next week? Be sure to tune in on Monday, Feb. 11!
