On Sunday night, Jan. 5 ABC aired what was essentially an hour long teaser for “The Bachelor” 2014. The premiere preview, entitled “The Bachelor: Countdown to Juan Pablo” gave us a look at Juan Pablo Galavis, his family, his hopes and dreams and some of the 25 ladies who will be vying for his affections as well as the final rose.
It started with a glimpse of some of the thousands of videos sent in during the application process for “The Bachelor.” What some girls won’t say or do for a chance at the man of their dreams. This was followed by casting interviews of the finalists. They were grilled by producers on everything from whether or not they wanted a family, a very important questions since this season’s bachelor is a single dad, to what they were looking for in a husband.
Then we got to meet the star. Juan Pablo lives in Miami because that is where his daughter, Camilla, lives. The 32-year-old dad was born in New York but moved to his family’s home country of Venezuela when he was just 2. He grew up there, loving, among other things, soccer, which he went on to play professionally. He gave it up when his daughter was born so he could be close to her.
Fridays are his day with his daughter and we were treated to scenes of him interacting with her, singing to her in the car and visiting his large extended family at his parents’ home. His cousin Isabel teased him to “Keep your shirt on so you can have a conversation with these girls.” He choked up a bit when listening to advice from his dad about being himself and being open minded to the process. After all, Juan Pablo’s dad met his mother on a blind date and now Juan Pablo was going to go essentially 25 blind dates.
There was a sneak peek of things to come this season which looked very dramatic. There were lots of meltdowns and tears and one particularly intriguing episode with a woman who may be intoxicated, sitting on a bathroom floor, wishing aloud that Juan Pablo would die.
In a first, for the Bachelor, there is a snippet of Juan Pablo sitting down with reigning Bachelor, Sean Lowe and discussing the adventure and talking about kissing up to 25 different women.
Season 18 of “The Bachelor” looks pretty interesting and dramatic to be sure. Tonight, Monday, Jan.6, Juan Pablo gets to meet the contestants and we’ll see if there are any sparks flying. Tune in for the show on ABC and then check back here often for news, spoilers and updates.
