'The Bachelor 18': Week 3 recap

Tonight, Jan. 20, the ladies of The Bachelor gathered around the mansion and were greeted by Chris Harrison, who told them there would be three dates – two individual dates and one group date. He left the first one-on-one date card on the table, which was for Cassandra. She looked forward to the day, hoping it would help her quickly decide whether or not she should be there or go back home to her son.

Juan Pablo and Cassandra hopped into an odd car, and Juan Pablo drove them right into the water – turns out, the car was actually a water car. They drove all around the water and eventually ended up transferring over to a yacht. After an afternoon of swimming, Juan Pablo and Cassandra ended up at his place for dinner (and some dancing). The two of them bonded over being parents and agreed they had a great day together. Juan Pablo offered Cassandra the rose, which she accepted. Cassandra felt back in the swing of things and wanted to see what happened with Juan Pablo.

Back at the mansion, Renee and Elise bonded over Elise’s mom’s passing and why they each came to the show. The next date card arrived for Kelly, Renee, Sharleen, Danielle, Alli, Lauren, Andi, Christy, Lucy, and Nikki.

It didn’t take long – the group date was a soccer match between the ladies. The limos dropped the women off right on the field, where Juan Pablo was playing soccer with some of the LA Galaxy players. The ladies practiced for a bit before dividing into teams and changing clothes. When the Red Team started running away with the game, Juan Pablo jumped in to help the Blue Team.

After the game, everyone changed and went back into the stadium for the evening portion of the date. Nikki and Juan Pablo talked about how they were afraid to get hurt and hurt people. Andi and Juan Pablo hopped over the counter into the snack stand for some munchies (and kisses). Sharleen and Juan Pablo got cozy on a blanket down on the middle of the field, in plain sight of the other women, and started making out. Juan Pablo offered Nikki the rose, and everyone enjoyed some champagne.

The final date card arrived at the mansion, and it was for Chelsie. Elise was very disappointed, being the only one left in the room who hadn’t gotten a one-on-one date thus far.

Juan Pablo picked Chelsie up for their date and apologized to Elise for not giving her a date this week. Once in the car, Juan Pablo and Chelsie danced and sang the whole way to their date. Meanwhile, Elise went on a tirade about how young Chelsie is and how she seems like such a baby…while talking to the 21-year-old, Cassandra. Later, she continued her rant to Kat.

Juan Pablo took Chelsie to a small Venezuelan eatery, where they tried a bunch of different foods before heading to their actual date destination: bungee jumping off a bridge. Chelsie, who is very afraid of heights, really struggled and didn’t want to jump, so Juan Pablo tried to calm her down. In the end, the two jumped, and Chelsie said that was the epitome of building a relationship.

The couple changed and headed to dinner. They talked about Chelsie’s life as a teacher, and Juan Pablo could tell she definitely had maternal instincts. Juan Pablo offered Chelsie the rose, which she accepted. Afterward, Billy Currington performed a private concert for the couple.

The next morning, Juan Pablo snuck into the mansion to make the ladies a Venezuelan breakfast. Most of the women were not excited to have Juan Pablo see them without their makeup done, but they enjoyed the breakfast. Juan Pablo suggested they cancel the Cocktail Party for later that evening and had a pool party instead. It didn’t take long before the women started to get jealous and speculate they might be going home that night. Sharleen, in particular, was very upset, and cried to Juan Pablo about her feelings. Clare wound up crying in the bathroom to Renee after seeing Sharleen and Juan Pablo kissing. Clare also talked to Juan Pablo about her feelings and said it wasn’t a jealousy thing, but she wished she was going on dates. (But that isn’t jealously?) Chris Harrison stopped by to interrupt and pulled Juan Pablo away.

Later that night, everyone gathered again for the Rose Ceremony. Cassandra, Nikki, and Chelsie each had roses from dates, and Juan Pablo offered roses to Andi, Renee, Kelly, Sharleen, Elise, Kat, Alli, Clare, Lauren, and Danielle. That left Christy and Lucy as the two going home this week.
