'The Bachelor 17': Episode 3 recap

For the second week in a row, tonight’s episode of The Bachelor opened with Sean exercising shirtless talking about the ladies. Meanwhile, Chris explained the dates to the ladies in the mansion – there would be two one-on-one dates and one group date. He left the first date card, which was for Lesley M.

Sean picked Lesley up for their date, and they went to the Guinness World Records Museum. Lesley wasn’t very excited at first, but Sean took her to a special spot to show her his dad had set his own world record and told her they were going to set their own record. They headed outside and were greeted by Chris Harrison, who told them they were going to be competing to set the world record for the longest on-screen kiss. As soon as they started, Lesley immediately had a difficult time keeping it together and not laughing. In the end, they were able to break the record, which was previously three minutes and 15 seconds.

Later on, the two of them settled down for dinner on top of the Roosevelt Hotel and discussed what their lives were like growing up and what they are looking for in a relationship. After more making out, (since they apparently didn’t get enough of that earlier), Sean offered Lesley the rose, which she accepted. They finished the night up under a shower of confetti and more kissing.

Back at the mansion, the group date card arrived for Kacie, Robyn, Leslie H., Kristy, Catherine, Desiree, Taryn, Amanda, Lindsay, Daniella, Jackie, and Tierra. The next day, the ladies met Sean out on the beach. Everyone threw around a football and a Frisbee while encouraging Sean to take his shirt off. Chris Harrison showed up to tell the ladies they were going to play beach volleyball against each other – the winning team would move on to spend time with Sean, while the losing team would go home immediately. The girls were divided into two teams of six: Lindsay, Jackie, Robyn, Desiree, Amanda, and Kacie made up the blue team; and Taryn, Leslie, Kristy, Tierra, Daniella, and Catherine made up the red team. The blue team ended up winning, so the red team headed home, with Kristy in tears over the loss.

The ladies of the winning team got to spend the rest of their night at Sean’s mansion. Sean and Lindsay spent some time alone together right away, and Sean was happy to see this side of her. During Sean’s time with Desiree, he complimented her volleyball skills, and she brought up her deeper side to tell him more about herself. Amanda told Sean she had something serious to talk to him about and that all the qualities he described what he wants in a woman are qualities she possesses. Not learning anything from her previous stint on the show, Kacie took it upon herself to tell Sean about the tension that had built between Desiree and Amanda. Sean wondered why Kacie was telling him because both ladies seemed fine, but Kacie said she was stuck in the middle because of her friendship with Desiree. Sean was confused as to why she had involved herself in the drama and told her he wanted her to be Kacie. They re-joined the rest of the group, and Sean thanked everyone for their honesty and openness before giving the rose to Lindsay. Kacie ended up a giant mess of tears over something still not clear to the viewers.

The second one-on-one date card arrived for AshLee. The next day, as she got ready for her date, Tierra took a huge fall down the stairs. Sean walked in shortly after and started asking her questions. When she wasn’t responsive, he worried she had a concussion, so they called an ambulance. Tierra turned into a giant, whiny baby and told the EMT’s to let her go before stomping off to the backyard. Sean followed her, and the two spent time together and joked about how she should wear a helmet as AshLee sat inside waiting for her date.

Eventually, the two of them hopped in a Jeep and drove to a theme park, which AshLee was a bit overdressed for in her short dress and high heels, where Sean told AshLee they were going to bring two girls suffering from chronic illness on their date. Emily and Brianna were best friends suffering from mitochondrial disease who had never met, so after they met, the group of four headed into the theme park. After their day at the theme park, everyone gathered around for a private concert from the Eli Young Band. Sean and AshLee got alone time later on, when AshLee decided to tell Sean she had been adopted as a child, she experienced abuse in a foster home, and told him about her family, which brought him to tears. He ended up offering her the rose, which she happily accepted. Suddenly, the Eli Young Band appeared behind them once more, so the two stood up and danced to the song.

Sean arrived at the ladies’ mansion and told everyone he had another great week with them and that if he hadn’t spent a lot of time with them, not to worry. He pulled Sarah out front, where a limo was pulling up. She was nervous she was being sent home, but it turned out her dog, Leo, was inside. Next, Sean pulled Tierra aside, where she told him she was really embarrassed about her fall the other day. Desiree came in and interrupted their conversation, which set Tierra off. Naturally, Tierra came back and took Sean away, which rubbed the other women the wrong way. Lesley went and stole Sean away, which became the theme of the night. Sean could hardly sit down for a few minutes before another woman came to snatch him up. Desiree sat in the same spot waiting for Sean to return, but he never did. Kacie pulled Sean aside to apologize for her behavior the night of the group date and said she was ready to move forward, but only if it was a two-way street. Before Sean could really give her an answer, they were interrupted by AshLee and Selma, who squeezed right in next to them on the couch.

At the start of the Rose Ceremony, Lesley, Lindsay, and AshLee each had roses. Sean entered the room and reminded the ladies how confident he was about finding the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with before pulling Kacie aside. He told Kacie they hit it off, and he admires her and respects her too much to make her stand through another Rose Ceremony, since he thinks she would be better off with someone else. He walked Kacie to a minivan, and off she went. After returning to the rest of the group, Sean explained he hadn’t developed any feelings for Kacie and that she had gone home. Then, he handed roses out to Tierra, Leslie H., Catherine, Daniella, Robyn, Selma, Sarah, Jackie, Amanda, and Desiree, sending Kristy and Taryn home. Taryn was disappointed she didn’t get the chance to make a connection or open herself up to Sean. Kristy said Sean was a wonderful guy, and she wished she would have fallen in love, but you can’t force something that isn’t there.
