The AVN Awards Expo Wrap Up

I will never again look at porn the same way. Did I get your attention? Well, the AVN show just hit Las Vegas. What can I say? It is a large show with a huge draw, so I figured I would go cover it. Oh yeah…I’ll need my camera.

I think there may be some confusion as to what AVN is. Before walking in, a guy asked me if I was going to take photos of people having sex. No, that is not what AVN is about. AVN is a trade show for the adult industry. Adult performers are there to promote themselves and their products to vendors who might want to carry them.

Sounds kind of boring when I put it like that, doesn’t it? Make no mistake, as far as conventions go, this one is pretty wild. For example, there is a product called Munkey Bars. This is a sex toy for the bedroom. Basically it is a belt with handlebars. Two ladies were on a bed, (clothed, but barely), showing how this product can be used.  To add to the ambience they had a female DJ in their booth, spinning tunes topless. (With pasties of course.)

Another interesting product was Shower – X.  Shower-X is made by a couple from California, who started a shower curtain business. Now you can get your shower curtain with a naked woman and/or ladies in swimsuits. You can even have a custom one made. Due to popular demand, their Male line of curtains will be coming soon.

As an ex-World of Warcraft player, I couldn’t help but notice a booth called BoneCraft. If you have ever played World of Warcraft you know there are people out there who really want to have sex with an elf, so BoneCraft came up with an adult parody of the famous game. Not only is it a one-player hack and slash game, it also allows the gamer to have their way with naughty elves and deal with racy robots.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino was packed daily with people heading to the AVN expo. Onlookers and the fans were sitting around the casino, hoping to see an adult star walking by. A funny example was at Starbucks, where a feature film starlet was waiting in line. She was dressed in gogo boots, fishnet stockings, a short skirt and some fabric pretending to be a shirt. An older woman with a cane, who was after her in line, was checking her out from behind. Meanwhile, two well-dressed businessmen were in front of the starlet, and had no idea why people kept taking photos.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any crazier, fan faire started. Fan faire is the meet-and-greet part of the expo, and it gets wild. Fans from all over the world packed into The Joint, hoping to have their photos taken with their favorite stars. The adult stars signed autographs and posed for photos.

Though the expo was smaller this year than in previous years, several people remarked that this was the best Expo they have ever attended. With nightly parties all over Las Vegas, AVN also did a great job of bringing revenue into the Las Vegas economy.

Saturday was the big climax to the AVN event, with a two-hour red carpet featuring hundreds of adult celebrities. Stars like Jessie Jane and Asa Akira joined porn star legends Nina Hartley and Ron Jeremy to walk the carpet. Afew of the adult stars who I have written stories about were also walking the carpet. I spotted Dylan Ryder, as well as Coco Velvett and Monroe Valentino. They were all dressed to the nines, posing for the cameras on the red carpet.

As everyone settled in to watch the AVN Awards Show, I ran over to Body English to snap some photos of the Vivid Vodka after party.  Wow, what a party! When it comes to parties, Vivid Vodka really knows how to throw them. Having an adult celebrity like Sunny Leone in the room was amazing. Then Coolio started rapping, and the crowd went crazy. Did I mention that 2 Live Crew went on after Coolio? I guess I will have to write a separate story to tell my readers all about the awesome after party that finished off the insane week of AVN.

Check back soon for other stories and more photos about AVN.
