As part of Marvel Comics’ 50th Anniversary celebration of the debut of the Avengers in “Avengers” #1 (September 1963), Marvel has published a series of interlocking alternate covers to the current “Avengers” series by artist Daniel Acuna which showcases the enormous roster of the Avengers. In an announcement made October 31, 2013, the interlocking covers will be combined into a single poster that measures six feet in length. The poster will be available in December’s “Avengers” #24.NOW.
This issue kicks off a bold new era of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Marvel is presenting the issue as a great jumping on point for new readers. From Marvel’s initial press release regarding the issue:
It all starts in December with “Avengers” #24.NOW(=”Avengers” #1 in All-New Marvel NOW!), from the blockbuster creative team of Jonathan Hickman (“Infinity,” “Avengers”) and Esad Ribic (“Thor: God Of Thunder,” “Uncanny X-Force”), leading the Marvel Universe in a bold new direction by launching new series—often more than one—every week with unique mission statements, epic scales, and bigger conflicts than ever before.
The Avengers have come a long way since writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby put together five of their most powerful heroes into one fighting unit. The original roster consisted of Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, the Wasp and Ant-Man. Today the roster has swelled to become a legion of the world’s greatest heroes. The six foot poster will feature all of the Avengers past and present in their current costumes and identities.
