“Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Edition” will introduce more than 20 characters from the pages of Marvel comics. While the Avengers – Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow – will be the first character figures released, more will be coming along with new play sets. The trailer released alongside the announcement also teased Spider-Man, Rocket Raccoon and Groot from “Guardians of the Galaxy” among other characters.

Additionally, all the characters and game disks from the original “Disney Infinity” will be compatible with “Marvel Super Heroes Edition”. While play sets will not be compatible, stats and upgrades earned for the older figures will remain intact and players will be able to increase their level cap from 15 to 20.

This 2.0 version of “Disney Infinity” will also feature new storylines written by award-winning Marvel comic writer Michael Bendis. These stories will allow some of the Marvel characters to cross over between the Marvel themed play sets, which addresses one of the complaints from the original game.

The Toy Box mode will be enhanced as well. Avalanche Software, the developer, promises that the updated creator tool will allow players to build and share easier and faster than before. Some of the examples sown included new brush tools for specific types of building such as City vs Race Track. Creators will also be able to build out interiors for the first time such as homes, dungeons, caves and more.

There’s a wealth of new power disks that will be available too with different themes. Circular disks will add costumes like the Iron Man Mark 42 armor and Captain America’s World War II costume and shield. The round disks will also bring team-ups with Iron Patriot and Winter Soldier as well as area of affect attacks like the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier Strike.

Meanwhile, hexagonal disk will bring new weapons and vehicles like Lola from “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, Falcon’s wings, the Avenjet, a S.H.I.E.L.D. containment truck and a Hydra motorcycle. There are also textures and backdrops available like the Stark Tech, the ability to see the world like you were in the Iron Man suit, plus the “World War Hulk” sky and landscape.

“Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Edition” will release with a Starter Pack featuring Iron Man, Thor and Black Widow figures as well as a new 2.0 version of the “Disney Infinity” base, two Toy Box game disks, an “Avengers” play set piece and a web code card for $74.99. play sets will be priced at $34.99 while individual figures will be $13.99 and power disk packs will be $4.99.

“’Disney Infinity’ was, from the start, built to be an interactive experience where players could bring together their favorite Disney characters and stories to create new Disney memories. With the introduction of ‘Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes’, we’re ushering in a new chapter of adventures, featuring a cast of the world’s most popular Super Heroes,” said Jimmy Pitaro, President of Disney Interactive. “Bringing popular and iconic Marvel characters to the ‘Disney Infinity’ platform truly takes this game to the next level.”

“Marvel Super Heroes fit perfectly into ‘Disney Infinity’, and with them we are pushing the platform’s limits of creativity and imagination,” said John Blackburn, VP and General Manager of Avalanche Software. “We’ve enhanced and redesigned the gameplay to match the Marvel characters, while also making it easier than ever for players to express and share their own creativity.”
