The Atlanta Opera presents The Italian Girl in Algiers with remaining performances on April 30, May 3 and 5 at the Cobb Energy Centre. The show literally opens up, like pop up picture book with the setting of the show in Algiers - a Northern African country next to Morocco with the look and feel of its neighboring country. The storyline is simple and clear from the beginning, the strong, military leader has a doting wife he has grown bored of and wishes for a feisty Italian girl as a new love interest. Then of course an Italian girl appears with her own mixed love interests of her own. She does stay quite true to her stereotype of being feisty and leaves this educational impression on the women of Algeria.
The Atlanta Opera cast is strong from leads to chorus. A simple, story from script to set let the audience enjoy a clear light heart storyline which is much appreciated when reading the American translation of an Italian opera.
Ticket prices range from $21.70 - $122.64 and can be purchased on the Atlanta Opera website or the Cobb Energy Centre box office.
