The Atlanta Human Trafficking Project tracks human trafficking

Atlanta is a major hub of transportation in the United States. It is also the major hub of child sex exploitation in the United States. According to Atlanta Magazine, the city of Atlanta has been dubbed the “Sex City”, the capital of sexual exploitation in the United States.
The primary focus of The Atlanta Human Trafficking Project is to bring awareness through education to the public about human sex trafficking. The organization focuses on alerting the public that sex slavery is alive and well in the 21st century and can affect anyone. The project has many partners, one being former Mayor Shirley Franklin, who launched the “Dear John” program in 2006. This program was set up to tackle the problem of child prostitution in Atlanta, Georgia. The program aims to educate communities on child exploitation and the problems that stem from it such as school withdrawal, poverty and health risks. Former Mayor Franklin also helped to launch YouthSpark, an advocacy agency for juvenile justice, social service reform, and education reform. YouthSpark hosts a dualthlon to raise awareness and funds. Other programs sponsored by YouthSpark are A Future. Not A Past, YouthSpark Voices, Angela’s House, Cease, Family Ties and Project, Ready, Set, Go.
