The Atheist's Guide to Christmas

The Atheist's Guide to Christmas is an anthology of humorous anecdotes, stories and tips on how to enjoy Christmas by 42 British atheist comedians, scientists, philosophers and writers. It is edited by Ariane Sherine, a UK comedy writer, journalist and founder of the Atheist Bus Campaign. It's scheduled to be on the bookshelves in Britain on October 1st, but the pre-release version has just been made available through Amazon UK. The book is divided into six sections: Stories, Arts, Science, Philosophy, How To and Events. According to Ariane, "It’s funny, thoughtful and hopefully quite beautiful in places, and also contains quotes from great atheists throughout history." Participating writers include Richard Dawkins, Charlie Brooker, Ben Goldacre, Jenny Colgan, David Baddiel, Simon Singh, AC Grayling, Robin Ince, Brian Cox and Richard Herring.

Copies can be ordered through Amazon UK or Amazon USA. The full advance and all proceeds from the book are going to the UK HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

Here, for a sample, is Richard Dawkin's contribution to the anthology.

I have it on pretty good authority that some of the contributors are not British but American. Phil Plait, to name one example.

You're absolutely right, EE. Mea culpa. Apparently I shouldn't have trusted Ariane's own words from her atheist bus website promo:

"The book features contributions from 42 of the UK’s most entertaining atheist scientists, comedians, philosophers, journalists and writers..."

Sigh... you can't even trust a book's own editor these days!

    Fine, no presents for you

What? Not even the lump of coal usually prescribed for bad children?
    :(

Oh, I'll probably buy it anyway. Many Americans have at least a little English in 'em anyway. ;-)
