Serious film fans will finally get a chance to see Golden Globe darling and Oscar hopeful “The Artist” (2011) this weekend, when the critically acclaimed picture opens at the Rave in Jones Valley.
Directed by Michel Hazanavicius, “The Artist” stars Jean Dujardin as a film star during Hollywood’s silent era. The cast also includes familiar faces like John Goodman, James Cromwell, Penelope Ann Miller, and Malcolm McDowell in supporting roles. Like the classic Hollywood musical, “Singin’ in the Rain” (1952), “The Artist” depicts the challenges facing silent era stars as the movies enter the sound age in the late 1920s.
“The Artist” has won the admiration of audiences and critics despite being a tough sell in a mainstream media market that favors CGI effects, big action, and blockbuster stars. The largely silent, black and white movie has already won three Golden Globes and is poised to be a significant contender in the upcoming Oscar race. Movies with classic film connections have been hot this year, with “The Artist” joining pictures like “Hugo” (2011) and “My Week with Marilyn” (2011).
Call the Rave at (256) 882-1202 or visit their website for information and show times. Rave Motion Pictures is located at 1485 Four Mile Post Road SE in Jones Valley, behind the Target shopping center.
