This Saturday, December 12, Wakefield Baptist Church will play host to "The Art of Storytelling" with Broadway actor Bruce Kuhn. Mr. Kuhn was on Broadway in Les Miserables and has extensive experience in classical repertory theater.
Per their website: " Anyone can tell a story of something that happened to them. The great stories, however, have happened to or been written by others. They are separated from our own experience by a gulf of years and culture. With good storytelling, we can bridge that gulf, bringing and old story to life with such immediacy and power that a modern audience can live it again.
This class will equip students to memorize a story word-for-word from an original account, and tell it with such freshness and authenticity that listeners will experience the story for themselves. From authentic experience comes compelling communication. Even if that experience is not direct, it can be explored and vividly lived through the imagination. Students will be taught a creative process of "What if this happened to me?" This is NOT an acting class, but an actor's tool that will be used to help students authentically 'play themselves' in an imaginary situation. By the end of the day, students will have memorized a one or two minute story word-for-word from a text and perform it for the class."
This is a special one-day event at Wakefield Baptist Church which is located at 13029 Falls of Neuse Road in Wake Forest. Space is limited and the cost of the workshop is $40. This cost includes not only the class but lunch and a ticket to Mr. Kuhn Saturday night performance of "The Gospel of Luke" which is also being held at Wakefield Baptist. There is an opportunity to audit the class. Auditors will be onlookers only and will not be individually coached. The cost to audit is $20 and does include lunch.
For more information or to enroll in the master class, go to www.wakefieldbaptist.org or call 919-570-5777. Don't delay - space is limited!
