The art of love abounds on Valentine’s day weekend with culture, movies & more

Art lovers are welcome to take a gallery walk from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Friday, February 14, in the West Loop. Among the must-stop destinations is Packer Schopf Gallery, on 942 W. Lake Street, which will be hosting a closing reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tonight, the gallery has a book signing at 5 p.m. with Kate Bonansinga, Director of the School of Art of the University of Cincinnati. February 14 also marks the final day of Chicago’s Chinese New Year celebration which includes a light show at Millennium Park and a lantern display at Navy Pier. In Lakeview, Music Box Theatre will show Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 14. After a Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Sing-Along with projected lyrics and live organ accompaniment at 2 p.m., the theater will screen the Oscar-winning Casablanca on Saturday, February 15. Completing the weekend, Music Box will take viewers to London via its National Theatre Live series with a special screening of the Shakespeare play Coriolanus at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 16. In Evanston, Northwestern University’s Block Cinema film series will screen the Oscar-winning Grand Hotel starring John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore and Joan Crawford at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 14.
