The art of knowing your Meme

Just recently on Facebook, I noticed people posting images of “what they really do.”  The first one I saw was what a photographer really does and how it read lines like “this is what my friends think I do” with a correlating humorous photo.  I started seeing more posts like this on Facebook, Twitter and my new favorite social medium Pinterest.  I was getting curious as to who was behind this new internet phenomenon that's sweeping social media.

Luckily, it was only one Google search away and after I typed in “what I really do picture.”  I searched through a couple images and found exactly what I was looking for.  The artist who created the images of "What People Think Ido / What I Really Do" is Garnet Hertz.  They were first seen on Facebook and then posted on Know Your Meme

The Know Your Meme website works much like Wikipedia, where much of the content is user submitted, but you can post pictures, videos, and even interact on a forum.  I actually registered for an account, but I don’t know about submitting anything just yet.  I feel I would have to make something funny, since most of the content is comical and simply made to make you laugh or just chuckle a little.

I haven’t seen anything that has me ROFL-ing, just yet, but there is more time.  Of course, I found my Meme on what a fashion designer really does and what the great Anna Wintour thinks I do.  I found the image quite cute and decided to share it.  Find yours on www.knowyourmeme.com, share it and see how many likes you get or better yet how many people share it.

Here is some information taken from the Know Your Meme website about the "What People Think I Do/ What I Really Do" images.

It's a series of visual charts depicting a range of preconceptions associated with a particular field of occupation or expertise. Unlike image macro series that are based on singular stereotypes like Advice Animals, this series compares varying impressions about one’s profession held by others, self-image and the often mundane reality of the job.

The original instance of the series was uploaded by artist Garnet Hertz via his Facebook page[9] on February 2nd, 2012. The chart summarized various preconceived notions and generalizations that are associated with being a contemporary artist.
