Learning to deal with Competitive Jealousy the right way as opposed to the wrong way will truly make a major difference between an individual achieving and maintaining their level of Professional proficiency, productivity and success versus never achieving and maintaining them. Now let me share with you how I handled Competitive Jealousy the right way.
Jealousy is one of the most negative emotions and sensations associated with an individual’s human nature. Jealousy is capable of destroying personal relationships as well as business relationships but, if and only if you let it. Because I had fame and fortune at a very young age, due to my real estate company and individual success, and my visibility through television, radio, billboards, tips columns, news releases, articles, etc., I was a perfect target for Competitive Jealousy both early in my career as well as throughout my career.
Competitive Jealousy toward me started when I was a 19 year old real estate agent. The reason was because I was offering South Jersey home buyers and home sellers numerous real estate services and options that my competitors were not. As a result of offering these services and options, I developed an excellent professional image with consumers. This led to consumers trusting and respecting me. Once they trusted and respected me they wanted to do business with me. I was also, at the same time, developing an excellent professional image and working relationship with many of my competitors as well. However there were a few of my competitors who were developing a tremendous amount of Competitive Jealousy toward me as a result of my company and individual success and my mass media exposure. Many of these jealous competitors would often say things about my company and I that were both negative and untrue. Initially these negative and untrue comments bothered me a lot but after a while I quickly realized that I had to find a way to turn my negative emotional reactions to these comments into positive emotional reactions in order to prevent a financial and psychological decrease in my company and individual overall proficiency, professionalism, productivity, and success.
I discovered that the best way for me to turn my negative emotional reactions to these comments into positive emotional reactions was to sit down quietly by myself and analyze why these undeserved negative and untrue comments were being made in the first place. That’s when it dawned on me. These comments were being made by very jealous competitors because they were not only losing home buyer and home seller business to my company and I but they were also becoming very sensitive and insecure toward the tremendous amount of mass media exposure my company and I were receiving. Additionally I also realized they were making these negative and untrue comments because it made them feel much better about themselves. Why? Simply because they realized, deep down inside, that: 1) they could not begin to compete with me due to my God given ability, and 2) they wanted to have my success and mass media exposure.
Once I analyzed and understood all of the reasons why undeserved negative and untrue comments were being made about my company and I it became very easy for me to forgive my jealous competitors. As a result I was able to reach out to them to not only openly discuss the comments they were making, but to even go as far as sharing some of my success secrets with them. By using this reaching out approach it not only enabled me to take a negative situation and turn it into a positive situation but it also, believe it or not, enabled me to befriend many of these jealous competitors. Using this reaching out approach also resulted in my being able to recruit a few of them as well. As a result they ended up enjoying much longer and far more successful careers. Why? The reason is they ended up working with me as opposed to against me.
Another One Of Life’s Lessons
Another one of Life’s Lessons pertaining to Competitive Jealousy and that I would like to share with you is as follows:
No Matter How Good People Are, How Good Their Products And Services Are, How Competitive Their Prices Are, And How Good Their Morals, Ethics, Principles, And Work Habits Are There Will Always Be A Few People Who Will Become Jealous Of Them. As A Result They Will Say And Do Things That Are Undeserved, Negative, And Untrue.
As long as people, who are victims of Competitive Jealousy, know in their mind, heart, and soul that they are truly offering consumers excellent products and services, at competitive prices and with good morals, ethics, principles, and work habits they have absolutely nothing to be worried about or ashamed of. If people want to be jealous of people who adhere to the above Ultimate Formula For Success then it really is their problem and not the problem of the ones who adopt and implement this formula.
