A new opening at the nonprofit Carter Burden Gallery showcases the talents of 92 year-old painter Gerson Leiber. The gallery show welcomes the spring season with two new exhibitions by older professional artists: Gerson Leiber, Rites of Spring: A Modernist View of Nature and Arnold Wechsler, On the Wall. The exhibitions will run from April 24 to May 15, 2014. Staten Island arts fans, you will want to check out this show entitled "Rites of Spring: A Modernist View of Nature." I have been to the Carter Burden Gallery and I find that its presentations for and about older artists offer aging people the opportunity to showcase their talent. Isn't that what great art appreciation is all about - understanding and appreciating the diversity and differences that separate mature artistry from those talents that are just beginning?
In Garson Leiber's own words, “The paintings you see here are the summation of a long search for clarity, honesty and beauty as the circumstances of my life have permitted me. I sincerely hope they please.” Added the statement by the Carter Burden Gallery of Garson Leiber's work: "The drawings, with their masterful use of line, tone and movement, are similarly expressive works to be savored." In addition check out artist Arnold Wechsler's On the Wall installation. "His large and colorful pieces will delight viewers with their joyful frenetic energy that are full of life. His work is cosmopolitan in the truest sense of the word," added the statement.
Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information visit http://carterburdencenter.org
Added http://www.nydailynews.com: "Leiber’s paintings, rich in palette and expression, have the rare ability to both visually engage and satisfy the viewer with their aesthetic complexity. In the artist’s own words."
Staten Island art fans, Garson Leiber's colorful, abstract expressionist paintings will delight and enthrall new generations of art fans. This is one show not to be missed at The Carter Burden Gallery in New York!
