The Art Institute of Chicago has gone high tech in a big way.
No longer content with having merely just a good site they've done a complete overhaul of the website placing elegant icons just waiting to lead to a calendar, exhibitions, archival research, the School of the Art Institute, you name it and they've got it. Access is simple and almost as important as the ease of navigation - maybe more so since it is an art museum - it's gorgeous. Hands down a huge improvement over the previous site.
Along with this fabulous new look the AIC has come full-bore into the 21st century with a host of apps to help guide you around the museum collections including one for French Impressionism containing high-res images of over 100 famous works by Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Gustave Caillebotte, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Georges Seurat; videos, biographies, narrated virtual tours and curator commentaries. It's an absolute goldmine of fun and interesting information right on your own phone. This app is available for Android and iOS devices.
A Member Card App is available for iPhone users to place on their phone instead of needing to carry their membership card. It gets you into special exhibitions and has an assortment of works to keep you entertained whenever you get bored and need a little art in your hand.
